2001 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Genuine 58,920 miles from new
  • Substantial service history and invoice file
  • Owned by vendor for 11 years
  • Excellent condition

THE APPEAL

In many respects, the DB7 is the last Aston Martin to emerge from the brand’s independent era, even though it was developed while Aston was under Ford ownership.
The new ‘Baby Aston’ evolved from the cancelled Jaguar F-Type sports car and was based on a heavily modified Jaguar XJ-S platform, with styling from Keith Helfet, who penned the Jaguar XJ220, and Ian Callum, who went on to be Jaguar’s global head of design – so pretty good pedigree!
It became the fastest-selling Aston Martin ever and from 1999 was offered with a V12 engine – the new model known as the Vantage.
This one is a 2001 model in traditional Solent Silver – perfect for the budding James Bond. It’s a genuine three-owner car with an impeccable service record and has been part of the vendor’s family since 2011, but a need to convert garage space into living accommodation means that it now needs to find a new home. It has a comprehensive history file from specialists and main dealers and has been both garaged and fastidiously maintained under the vendor’s ownership.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Full main dealer and specialist history
  • Thousands spent over the years
  • Fully-stamped service book
  • Original owner’s guide
  • Lots of previous invoices
  • All original books and documents
  • Genuine 59k mileage
  • UK V5C
  • MOT October 2023
  • Original order form detailing options including an umbrella holder, heated windscreen, Tracker and Touchtronic automatic transmission, for delivery to first owner in April 2021
  • Original purchase invoice for £104,578 including options
  • Old MOT certificates
  • Extremely reluctant sale due to loss of garage space

THE INTERIOR

  • Parchment leather
  • Pacific Blue highlights
  • Original Becker Traffic Pro head unit
  • Front seats restored in 2021

The cabin of this car is gorgeous, offering an alluring mix of Parchment leather, a two-tone Pacific Blue and Parchment dash, walnut veneered details and thick blue carpets. The overall condition is excellent, as you’d expect given its mileage and ownership history.
The seats are beautifully presented having been professionally restored in 2021, while the DB7 also features a period Alpine head unit with CD changer and supplementary amp – a massively expensive option back in 2002, costing over £1,500.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Stunning Solent Silver Metallic
  • Factory option mesh grille
  • Immaculate 18-inch alloys with factory-correct Bridgestone Potenza tyres
  • Superb panels and paint

The Vantage looks stunning in Solent Silver – one of the most popular colours for a DB7, and for a good reason.  It features all of its original paintwork and trim and is more or less blemish-free other than a small stone chip on the bonnet and some tiny bubbles alongside one of the side vents. It’s a great-looking car in truly wonderful condition, with no evidence of corrosion, an exceptional paint finish and no dents or damage to speak of. A recent inspection by HWM Aston Martin confirmed the car to be in very good order underneath, while the alloy wheels are in excellent order.
Last year, the vendor had the front bumper colour-matched and repainted due to some minor scuffs and stone chips, ensuring it remains fresh and smart.

THE MECHANICS

  • 6.0-litre V12
  • ‘Touchtronic’ automatic transmission with push-button manual shift
  • Recent major service
  • Drives without fault

Powered by a Ford-developed V12, the Vantage’s performance doesn’t fall far short of a supercar. Quite apart from that beguiling soundtrack (and nothing sounds as good as 12 cylinders on full chat), it’s a rapid car with a 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds and a top speed allegedly somewhere around 185mph.
It has been impeccably well-maintained by a combination of main dealers and independent specialists, most recently by HWM Aston Martin of Kingston-Upon-Thames and then AstonDB7.com, an Aston Martin Owners’ Club approved specialist.
It also has a full stainless-steel exhaust system with a lifetime guarantee, fitted to the car when new.

SUMMARY

This is a terrific example of the DB7 – a Vantage with a superb, well-documented pedigree, it’s well above the average example on the market and is presented in fine condition.

A lovely car that deserves a new owner who will treat it with the very same level of care that the current owner has lavished on it for the past decade or so.
