The Appeal

When did you last see one of these? Alfa’s 156 got everything right - the looks, the fizzy engines, the handling and a healthy drizzle of Alfaesque DNA. But there was a catch - 156s weren’t quite as durable as their BMW and Audi rivals, and modern-day survivors are very thin on the ground.
That is a real shame because the 156 is one of the greatest Alfa saloons of the last 40 years. Here is a chance to discover exactly why. This timewarp 2001 Sportwagon is in remarkable condition and has covered less than 50,000 miles from new. It was ordered new in Brussels under Diplomat rules by its British keeper, who kept it until a couple of years ago when it passed to a friend.
While the V6 variants are appealing, enthusiasts also favour this model, the 2L Twin Spark because it offers similar performance to the 2.5L V6 but with a lighter engine up front. This car is finished in smart metallic green and is a well-specified Lusso model with full black leather and rare glass sunroof.
The car is in very good condition, which a long, advisory-free MOT to December confirms. The tyres are new and there is also a recently replaced alternator and battery. It is said to run very well and offers buyers a practical, stylish modern classic that is now exceptionally rare in this condition.
