The Appeal

TVR are widely known for creating arguably some of the best and most exciting sports cars to grace the roads. The Blackpool-based firm, especially under the custodianship of Peter Wheeler, effectively produced race cars for the road, with lightweight tubular chassis and enormous engines. The 1999-2006 Tuscan revived a moniker used by TVR in the 1960s and the new car proved immensely popular among petrolheads.

This 2000 example is NOT for the faint of heart. Swapping out the original engine for a 6.3 litre Chevy V8, it produces 528bhp, reaches 0-62 in around 3.4 seconds, reportedly able to exceed 200MPH and sends all that American power straight to the rear wheels.

A British icon with an American twist. This TVR is a powerhouse and a true force to be reckoned with, but fortune favours the brave. Visually, the car would benefit with a slight freshen up, but needs very little mechanically as high-quality parts have been used throughout the vehicle. 
If you are looking for a new track toy, then this should be on your radar. You won’t be disappointed.

To fully appreciate the level of work undergone to make this car what it is, one would have to spend a great deal of time looking through the copious amounts of paperwork. The USB drive alone holds meticulous data documenting the engine works involved, it's rebuild and evidencing the great skill, passion and time afforded to it.

Peering under the eye catching styled bodywork, the Tuscan is made up of a mix of tubular steel for the chassis and fibreglass for bodywork which makes the car incredibly light and nimble. The front features an interesting triple stack light arrangement and at the rear features two massive cannon-like exhausts.
Having a fibreglass body is great for saving weight but can leave the car vulnerable to damage, such as stone chips, which, in turn, has left the TVR asking for a little bit of very minor exterior work. There is no hiding that the exterior has seen better days, more in some areas than others but, this doesn’t distract from the fact this is still an incredibly good looking car. 
On inspection, the driver’s seat is showing signs of age with the bottom of the seat sagging and the outer bolster starting to wear. The passenger seat tells a very similar story with the leather on the base of the seat starting to sag, however neither seat is excessively worn.
The dashboard, gear stick and hand brake surround still look very good with no rips or scuffs to point out. The chrome and gold details dotted around the cabin are presentable. It is reported that all the switches within the cabin are functioning as they should.

The fun part. Under the bonnet, the original straight-six engine is no more, and what replaces it can only be described as a monster. A Chevrolet 383CI 6.3 V8 which produces a staggering 528bhp and 447lb-ft of torque. Invoices show that the engine at some stage has had a complete overhaul using forged parts. The vendor informs us that the Chevy V8 provides not only more intoxicating performance, but also increased reliability and a sublime soundtrack.
Stopping power is taken care of by a big brake kit that has been taken from the Sagaris. Handling characteristics are not a strong point of the car but, fear not, as the original suspension has been swapped out in favour for a set of Gaz coilovers. 
On the day of the photos, the car was started and taken up the road to blow off a few cobwebs. It started with ease and the sound of the engine on start up and idle was a sound to behold. The sound of the 383CI engine under full load and in between gears was hair-raising and adrenaline-inducing to say the least!
