Highlights
- Rare vehicle, number 52 of 1000
- Mechanically very solid
- Complete engine rebuild with top-end components
The Appeal
This very rare edition of the 2000 Impreza is the P1 version, and only 1000 of these fine machines were built, with this being number 52 off the line. There could be as few as half of them left in total and only around a quarter or so remaining on the road. This solid Impreza has been used daily, it needs some TLC in the interior and exterior departments, however this would be the perfect basis for a light restoration project.
The History and Paperwork
- V5 present
- This reliable and sporty machine has had only 2 previous keepers from new, the
- Current keeper having had the car for 8 years.
- MOT until October 2023
- HPI clear
- Trafficmaster Trackstar tracker fitted, for which a subscription is required.
- In 2003 the air flow meter was replaced, in
- 2015 a full engine rebuild was carried out, a replacement exhaust in 2019, heater matrix in 2020, and an Exedy racing clutch kit fitted in 2021. Besides these major items the car has had plenty of oil changes
The Interior
Brushed metal effect gauge surrounds with sporty white dials. The seats are finished in grey fabric with blue bolsters and details, the seats are well worn and have some tears and bad creases in the drivers bolster, a full renovation would certainly be advised. Everything works as it should and the interior is original and unmodified, however there are significant marks and scratches throughout, and there is a tear in the carpet
below the pedals.
The interior could do with a good clean. Large holes have also been cut in the parcel shelf at some point in the past for the fitting of speakers, however no speakers are currently fitted in this location. Overall a very original car, and a good candidate for restoration to its former glory.

The Exterior
The exterior is complete and original, however as with the interior, it could do with a good overhaul and restoration. There are numerous dings, scratches, and areas of corrosion, all of which will need to be corrected. There is also a very large scuff on the rear bumper. Although the paintwork and body has seen better days, where it counts it is solid, and it is an ideal foundation for a comprehensive visual overhaul.
The alloy wheels are very nice and have body colour matched wheel nuts, however the wheels could also do with a refurb to bring them up to top condition. The tyres appear in good shape with no damage. The very cool Subaru P1 driving light covers are present and everything is original and unmolested. Overall a very good base for a project or restoration.

The Mechanics
Mechanically, this is where the car shines, as it has been very well cared for in the mechanical side of things. The car drives beautifully and sounds fantastic with that characteristic subaru rumble.
The car had a complete engine rebuild in 2015, and as such is in amazing condition. Machine work and skimming was carried out on the block halves and heads, fully rebuilt with OEM Subaru and uprated parts, Mahle pistons were fitted, and the crankshaft was nitrided and fitted with ACL race bearings. The head gaskets are Cosworth items, and has had the cambelt and spark plugs changed along with new silicone hoses in orange, and also has a Toyo Sport intercooler, 3” de-cat system, and SARD dump valve. So as you can see an exceptional rebuild.
Under the body everything is in good order and is solid. The car starts, runs and stops well, and is an excellent platform on which to build, and the car has been maintained and upgraded with durability in mind instead of chasing power figures as is often the case.
Summary
The Subaru Impreza P1 is as solid as they get mechanically, and has been well maintained. It is an ideal project car for the right buyer, and would be a very good investment once restored to top condition due to the rare nature of the vehicle.
