The Appeal
Against all odds, film director Peter Collinson pulled out all the stops to feature Minis in his 1969 film, ‘The Italian Job’. Try as he might, BMC refused to donate any cars for the movie, while Fiat, recognising the marketing potential, said he could have as many 500s as he wanted - for free! How fortunate it is that Collinson wasn’t swayed by Agneli’s generous offer. To fit the theme, those getaway cars had to be British, and frankly, the Mini was far better suited to the audacious stunts the film’s makers had in store.
This 2000 Rover Mini Cooper has also made its way to Italy, exported from new and supplied in left-hand drive. These late examples, with the fuel-injected 1.3-litre engine and full synchromesch, are regarded as some of the best-driving Minis around - and this one is immensely smart.
The vendor added the Mini to their collection of classic and pre-war cars a couple of years ago, and has since attended to annual servicing themselves. We’re informed that it drives very well, with ample performance, slick gearchanges and effective brakes. The car is ASI registered and complete with Revisione valid until May 2026.
