The Appeal
Coupés and cabriolets enjoyed a huge resurgence in the 1990s, with fashion-conscious customers lapping up two-door and soft-tops in their droves.
One of the best-sellers in the four-seater cabriolet market was the Renault Mégane, which managed to combine drop-dead gorgeous looks with handling agility to match its coupé and hatchback siblings. It was one of the best convertibles in its class to drive and enjoyed a spell as the best-selling soft-top in the UK as a result.
This one is a great survivor, finished in iconic Sunflower Yellow – the same colour as the works Mégane Maxi rally cars – it’s a really smart example, having been in the care of a long-term owner called Barbara, with a cherished plate and garaged from 2006 to 2023. It has been used sparingly since.
It has covered less than 88,000 miles from new and is offered with a fresh MOT valid until May 2025, as well as a comprehensive service record up to less than 4,000 miles ago, including a cambelt and head gasket replacement at 79k miles. It’s a smart, cherished and well cared-for example in a plush trim level, great to drive and equipped with a fully functioning electric roof that stows neatly away in the rear deck when opened.
Under the bonnet, it has Renault’s 110bhp K7 1.6-litre 16v engine – a unit that’s surprisingly eager for its compact capacity and gives lively performance alongside frugal fuel economy.
It's a great opportunity to acquire an increasingly rare car from what many believe to be the last golden era of motoring – with modern usability combined with mechanical simplicity.
