THE APPEAL
Commissioned by Land Rover to celebrate 30 years of Range Rover production in late 2000, the P38 30th Anniversary Edition models were intended as not only a celebration of the production anniversary, but also as a runout model for the P38 which ceased production in 2001.
Featuring unique Wimbledon Green paintwork with a two-tone green-and-cream interior, the Anniversary models could also be picked out by their body-coloured bumpers, burr wood veneers and, of course, the 30th Anniversary badging on the rear and inside of the vehicle.
They’re rare and highly prized by P38 fans today, not least for their sheer opulence. This one is as posh as they get – one of only around 50 to include built-in DVD players and rear picnic tables on top of the already decadent specification.
The vendor is a P38 fan and is keen for the truck to go to a good home.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
• Bought during lockdown as a show car, but never showed
• Selection of invoices including some from Overfinch
• British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate
• UK V5C
• MoT June 2022 with no advisories, barely used since last test
• Kept in heated garage
The vendor bought this – one of two P38 30th Anniversaries he owned – in April 2020 to use as a shiny example for shows and events, but with most car events in 2020 and 2021 cancelled it never happened and during his ownership the Range Rover has mostly sat in his heated storage.
It has a British Motor Heritage Certificate showing it was originally sold by Hartwell Land Rover of Oxford in September 2000 and had the optional walnut veneer rear tables and back seat entertainment system included.
THE INTERIOR
• Two-tone Lightstone and Green leather
• Electrically adjustable seats and multifunction steering wheel
• Unspoilt veneers
• Rear tray tables and entertainment pack
The interior is trimmed in “Lightstone” and Richmond Green leather, with wood veneers and a matching two-tone dash and steering wheel. The pale piped green leather seats are gorgeous and in great order, while it has electric windows, mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, CD changer and a multifunction steering wheel.
But it’s in the rear where it gets really interesting – there are walnut tray tables and a DVD player system. The vendor reports that it all lights up and powers up properly but that he has never tested it with a DVD.
It’s all in great order other than a minor mark on the offside rear door card, where a seatbelt must have got trapped at some stage, and a small tear in the boot carpet.
THE EXTERIOR
• Model-specific Wimbledon Green
• Very good overall condition
• Reportedly excellent underneath
This is an amazing-looking Range Rover with no major issues to report and looks terrific in its unique-to-the-model Wimbledon Green Pearlescent paint. The vendor has painted the radiator grille to match the body, instead of its original rather boring grey.
The only very minor flaws are a few swirl marks in the paint and a couple of very tiny marks and chips – certainly nothing to show any concern over. Underneath it looks to be solid and the vendor reports that it is in excellent structural order.
THE MECHANICS
• 4.6-litre V8
• Automatic transmission
• Adjustable air suspension
The 30th Anniversary is powered by the 4.6-litre version of the Range Rover V8 and while the service history on this example is by no means comprehensive, it does come with a few invoices including a few from the ultimate Range Rover specialist – Overfinch in Surrey.
It runs well and engages all gears in both high and low ration, with no signs of any mechanical issues, according to the vendor who also says it drives very well indeed.
SUMMARY
Overall, this is a lovely P38 and while it isn’t a micro-mileage example it still looks fresh. Indeed, it looks terrific and has clearly been cherished throughout its life.
It’s also extremely rare – one of only 50 made globally with the enhanced spec to include the rear tables and infotainment package.
