The Appeal

One of the world's most iconic cars, the 911 is unmistakable in whatever version and whatever age, and here’s one that ticks every conceivable box. 3.4 flat-six engine mated to a manual gearbox and a service and maintenance history that is just impeccable.

The large ring binder containing a host of invoices will provide hours of bedtime reading, and then you can sleep soundly knowing that your shiny black Porsche has been properly looked after.

The History and Paperwork

  • Original Book Pack
  • Two service books with 22 stamps
  • Large folder of invoices
  • Invoices from Hartec, Autofarm, Friends Green Porsche
  • Valid UK V5c
  • Current Mot
  • Previous Mot certificates
History is such a valuable thing, particularly for a performance machine like a Porsche 911. This car has the kind of history that would be the envy of most used car dealers as it is so extensive that it fills 2 service books and has a large folio of invoices. All the regular maintenance has been carried out along with plenty of upgrades and preventative work.

Buying a 23-year-old performance car can be something of a leap of faith, but when it comes with such a comprehensive history, it goes a long way to help you buy with confidence.

The Interior

  • Delightful subtle interior scheme
  • Power adjustable grey leather seats
  • Clear white dial instrument cluster
  • Minimal wear considering the age
  • Free of tears and burns
  • Clean headlining
  • Full-functioning Air Conditioning
The cockpit of a 911 of this era is always a comfortable place to be. This one has worn well and has very few indications of the car’s age. The grey leather seats are electrically adjusted and work well. All the switchgear still feels positive and functional and the bright white dialled instruments are a nice contrast to the rest of the dash.

The air conditioning works well and has had a recent re-gas and the in-car entertainment system and navigation appear to functioning as they should. The overall quality and condition of the interior are very good and belies the true age and mileage of this car.

The Exterior

  • Shiny Basalt Black metallic paint
  • Factory fit wheels
  • Clear headlamps and clusters
  • Minimal stone-chips
  • No apparent repairs
There’s a delightful deep shine to the deep black coachwork that displays little in the way of stone chipping. There’s just one scratch on the rear quarter of the driver’s side near the door.

This would certainly be worth rectifying professionally as it is the only issue with an otherwise extremely good paint finish. The factory-fitted alloy wheels are also in very good condition and are shod in Michelin Pilot tyres to the rear and Continental Contacts to the front, all of which have good tread depth. The headlamps remain clear and bright and are not suffering from any UV cloudiness.

Just as with the interior, the overall condition of the exterior displays little to give away the vehicle’s age.

The Mechanics

  • Very well maintained
  • Preventative modifications made
  • Subtle upgrade to the exhaust system
  • IMS Bearing upgrade
  • Recent replacement clutch kit
  • New engine mounts
  • Continual maintenance programme
Buying a Porsche with confidence means that you need to be sure that it has been looked after and that it has received all the important services and maintenance.

That’s why you need to look closely at this particular Porsche 996. Not only has it got a fantastic paper trail confirming 22 services, but those same invoices show much more work undertaken on things like the all-important IMS bearing which has been upgraded to an EPS cylindrical unit. At the same time in 2021, a new 3-piece clutch kit was fitted along with a new rear oil seal.

In recent years the car has benefitted from new front brake discs, Inner and outer CV boots, anti-roll bar bushes and cam chain tensioners. There’s been an exhaust improvement too with the popular Gundo hack, which improves the tone of the exhaust note.

Summary

Any sports car can be a whole heap of fun, the thing is they can be a whole heap of trouble too if you don’t choose wisely. This is why this Porsche holds so much promise as being a good buy. A service and maintenance history as complete as this goes a long way to settle any nerves, couple that with a few subtle upgrades and some forward-thinking preventative engineering and you must be on to a winner.

There has been little expense spared on this car, and it shows. Nobody is saying that a new owner should rest on their laurels and not continue looking after the 996 in the way it has become accustomed to, but whoever purchases it has been given a pretty good start.
