2000 Morgan Plus 8

Highlights

  • Low mileage
  • Fresh MOT
  • Extensive history

The Appeal

Hand crafted in Malvern, Worcestershire since 1968, the Morgan Plus 8 possesses a timeless charm that captivates enthusiasts with its classic design and exhilarating driving experience.
Its flowing bodywork seamlessly blends retro aesthetics with modern touches, evoking a sense of nostalgia while exuding an undeniably sporty appeal.
With a 3.9 litre V8 and low weight, it delivers on the looks too, providing scintillating performance and a delicious exhaust note.
This gleaming Signal Red example has seen only light usage over the years and has provided its current owner with over seven years and four thousand miles of memorable wind in the hair motoring. It’s still in great condition and is ready to take its next owner on new adventures.

History and Paperwork

  • Manufactured 2000
  • Extensive history in the service book
  • MOT valid until June 2024 with no advisories
  • V5 in the owner’s name
  • Number plate included in sale
  • 2 keys

The Interior

  • Black leather sports seats
  • Polished walnut dashboard
  • Concealed radio
Contrasting beautifully with the bold exterior, the cabin is kitted out with black leather sports seats and black carpets, all of which look to be in fine condition. When you settle in behind the wood-rimmed Moto Lita steering wheel, survey the polished walnut dashboard and look out over the louvred bonnet and sweeping front wings, you’re taking in a view that has been the consistent preserve of Morgan drivers for decades.
The vendor assures us that all of the gauges and switches are in full working order, as is the Sony radio with removable fascia which is located out of sight under the dash. The easily stowable roof is complemented by a pair of side screens which are provided with their own storage bag for when they are not in use. Also included is a storm cover in its own bag which is useful for when touring.

The Exterior

  • Lovely Signal Red Paintwork
  • Black mohair hood and tonneau
  • Luggage rack
  • Chrome wire wheels
  • Fresh set of Continental tyres
We’re sure you’ll agree that the car looks fantastic in the photographs and that Signal Red suits the vintage lines beautifully. Showing no signs of fade, it’s accompanied by lovely polished stainless steel bumpers, driving lamps and rear luggage rack. Overall, its condition is testament to the limited use and careful storage that the car has obviously benefited from over the years.
There are a couple of minor points to note: there is some discolouration to the windscreen low down on the driver’s side, first noted on the MOT history in 2019 though never mentioned since and some paint around the wing-mounted side light is starting to show signs of light corrosion. However neither detract from what is a fabulous car to behold.
On a practical note, as one of the later examples of the original run of Plus 8s, entry and exit is aided by longer doors than are found on earlier builds, while an alloy body, stainless steel inner arches and bulkhead and galvanised chassis provide it with longevity.
Everywhere you look on the car there are amazing details to take in, from the signature triple wipers on the wide screen to the polished stainless steel exhaust. One thing is for sure: the next owner will definitely be looking back over their shoulder every time they walk away from it.

The Mechanics

  • 3.9litre V8 engine with Optimax chip
  • Upgraded radiator
  • 5 speed manual gearbox
  • Rear wheel drive
The seller reports that the car is in sound mechanical and electrical order and starts on the first turn of the key. The engine has been fitted with an Optimax chip for smoother acceleration and fuel economy which has proved no issue with his Heritage insurance.
A larger motorsport radiator has been fitted to overcome the common 3.9 engine overheating problems when in stationary traffic and is said to be very effective.
The battery has been fitted with a Bluetooth battery monitor and is provided with a trickle charger that simply plugs into the glove box cigar lighter which is ideal when the car is in storage.

Summary

This Morgan Plus 8 is a stunning, eye-catching vehicle. Open top motoring in such a beautiful car, accompanied by a V8 soundtrack, is surely the perfect way to enjoy summer, we think.
