THE APPEAL
The Jaguar XK8 is undoubtedly a great ‘best of British’ luxury grand tourer. The gorgeous styling, opulent interior and impressive performance is a winning formula and changed very little during it’s 10 year production run.
The well-developed Jaguar 4.0-litre V8 has also proved itself as a reliable power-plant and is accompanied by a silky-smooth automatic transmission, taught chassis and agile handling.
This 2000 XK8 is in good condition and offers unrivalled GT sports car looks, appears to have been properly maintained, and is definitely an appreciating proposition.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Original handbooks
- Jaguar specialist service history
- Plenty of receipts
Registered on the 3rd March 2000, this XK8 was purchased new from Jaguar in Liverpool and subsequently moved south to the Bristol area in 2006, then to Hertfordshire, and more recently to the Bournemouth area. The current owner purchased it at the beginning of May 2022.
Wrongly listed as an XKR, the online MOT history shows a steady mileage and very low annual mileage in recent years.
The current ‘PASS’ MOT is valid until the 4th December 2022 and highlighted a few ‘Monitor and repair…’ advisories. Happily these have been attended to by the current owner except for the need for two replacement rear tyres, which the owner is happy to purchase and fit upon the sale.
- The driver’s handbook and supplements
- V5 (in previous owners name)
- Service book with 10 Jaguar dealer and specialists stamps
- Some recent parts and servicing invoices
- Private plate included
- Recent HPI vehicle history report 7th June 2022 (see photo all good)
- 2 key fobs
THE INTERIOR
- Excellent condition throughout
- Beautiful wood veneer and Oatmeal leather
- Functioning electrical equipment
This luxurious cabin is indicative of Jaguar’s ability to combine modern styling and comfort with a touch of heritage charm. From the beautiful burr-walnut dash to the snug Oatmeal leather upholstery, this particular example has clearly been treated well.
Up front, the dash houses the original instrumentation, switchgear and comprehensive range of XK8 factory features which the owner assures us all operate as they should.
Any minor marks or natural wear seem to be confined to the half wood/half leather steering wheel, drivers seat and a broken passenger seat hinge cover. The roof lining is a little distorted but the carpets, door trims and ‘Jaguar XK8’ sill plates are very presentable and the occasional rear seats and side trims are, as you might expect, excellent.
Despite being a coupé, the boot space is very generous. This one is nicely carpeted, essentially unmarked and contains the original warning triangle, space-saving spare, jack and tools. Happily, the boot floor looks very solid.
THE EXTERIOR
- Fantastic Jaguar styling
- Good condition body, paint and trim
- Refurbished 18” Jaguar wheels
The ageless appearance of the XK8 coupé is simply stunning and looks terrific from every angle. The bodywork here looks very straight with good panel gaps and the attractive and ‘cool’ Seafrost metallic coachwork is shiny with no obvious scuffs or scratches.
There are a few minor stone chips to the front bumper and some bubbling of the paint on the lower rear wheel arch (quite common). Also, the ends of the sills may have been retouched at some stage and the lower edges may need improving in the future.
The classic bonnet mounted leaping Jaguar is in good shape along with all the Jaguar badging, front grill and trim. The clear headlights, fog lamps, side repeaters and and rear lights look spot on, and apart from a small crack to the offside bottom corner of the windscreen, the windows and mirror glass are all fine.
A peer underneath reveals a clean and undersealed chassis and floor. The suspension and brake component, from what we can see, look healthy, and despite some surface corrosion, the exhaust looks sound enough and gives a confident roar when you put your foot down.
Genuine 18” 7-spoke Jaguar wheels are in place and were treated to a full refurbishment in July 2019. A pair of Falken 245/45 R18 tyres sit up front, and as mentioned, rears will be fitted.
THE MECHANICS
- Well maintained mechanicals
- Some recent new parts
- “plenty of get up and go!”
This glorious 4.0-litre 32-valve V8 sits in an exceptionally clean engine bay, and from what we can see, has been well maintained, whatever the cost. Limited to around 155mph, this original matching numbers engine is believed to have good compression, no rattling timing chain, and had new top chain tensioners fitted just 6,280 miles ago.
There are no reported overheating issues or water leaks and the 5-speed automatic transmission (with ‘sport’ mode), power steering, suspension and brakes are said to function really well. The owner also tells us that this cat starts easily, is lovely and quiet and has “plenty of get up and go!”.
- Replacement top chain tensioners fitted by Jaguar specialists Hollygrove, Ringwood, in July 2019 at 88,704 miles
- New Numax battery in May 2020
- Oil and filter change at 92,000 miles in 2020
- New water pump and belt fitted at 94,000 miles in October 2021
- New radiator bottom hose fitted by by Jaguar specialists, Marina Garage Ltd, Wimborne in March 2022
SUMMARY
Unlike some of it’s predecessors, the XK8 was a well-engineered and well-built GT right from the outset and the benefits of this can now be seen in it’s longevity and indeed continued popularity.
This particular refined-act is clearly an appreciating classic offering unbeatable looks, an exciting and manageable V8, and all the luxurious comforts you will ever need. It is, put simply, a lot of car for not much money!.
