The Appeal
The X308 was the last evolution of the XJ, but almost unrecognisable from earlier generations, looking far more modern and featuring Jaguar’s independent rear suspension lay out and the legendary AJ V8.
This car has an incredibly low 62,000 miles on the clock, and the condition of the bodywork and interior matches such limited use. It has a full specialist history until not long ago when the current enthusiast owner took over maintenance, servicing and improving the car as he went.
The History and Paperwork
- Full book of service stamps up to date
- New engine supplied by Jaguar at 1 year old
- 3 keys and handbooks
The XJ was supplied new by H.A. Fox Jaguar Centre in Cheltenham in 2000, where it returned for service for the first five services, taking it to 2006 and almost 30,000 miles. During in its first year the engine was replaced by the dealer under warranty due to Nikasil cylinder lining problems - the feeling today is that cars with issues showed them early on and cars still running well now are good.
in the glove box is the book pack of manuals including the service book showing that after H.A. Fox the car was maintained by Hadley Green Jaguar main dealer until 2014 when it had covered just 56,000 miles. Following that it has two more stamps from Wyn Thomas Independent Jaguar specialists taking it to 59,600 miles in 2018, and the current owner has just given it a major service with fluid flushes and many other extra jobs in May. He had been planning to keep the car so spending heavily on it, but a change of circumstance means the new owner will benefit from this.
Please note the current private reg plate "J33 ARK" will not be included in the sale.

The Interior
- New headliner
- A/C re-gassed
- Cream leather and pale wood
Having only driven a relatively small mileage over its life, the cabin has not suffered much wear and tear, the seats have just a light patina of use, just a little heavier on the drivers bolsters than elsewhere.
The brown carpet looks very tidy and it has fitted floor mats. Complementing the cream leather is pale wood across the dashboard, gear knob, centre console and door tops. Overall this is in extremely good condition with a smooth, glossy surface over nicely grained wood, only the drivers door cap has cracks in the lacquer.

Up above, the headlining has just been replaced as sagging ceilings are a common issue on these cars, so it now looks fresh and new.
The Exterior
- New Michelin Pilot Sport tyres
- Alloy wheels refurbished
- Great paint and panels
The paint and panels are very good on the Jaguar, the panels are straight and generally free of dings or damage, and the deep metallic blue paint smooth and shiny. At the rear, there is a small area of bubbling between the screen rubber and fuel cap, the spoiler over the number plate has some flatter paint on it and the front wing has some lacquer peel at the front.
The owner has just spent a lot on the wheels, having the alloys refurbished and fitting new Michelin Pilot Sport tyres all round, making them look and ride beautifully.
The Mechanics
- Just been serviced
- Coolant flushed
- Brake fluid flushed and new disks and pads
- Brake calipers overhauled and powder coated
- New battery
The current owner has looked after the XJ very well, spending lots on long term consumables as well as a major service in May. As well as the usual tasks, it has had a coolant and brake fluid flush as well as new brake disks and pads fitted. The calipers were also overhauled and powder coated blue to match the bodywork, and the car also received a new battery.
The owner tells us the 3.2 V8 runs, drives and handles extremely well with no issues he is aware of.
Summary
These may be big executive barges, but they drive like sports cars so have always been popular with those wanting a rewarding as well as comfortable drive, as well as the smoothness of that V8 engine.
This example has very low miles and a fantastic service history, and having had so much spent recently the new owner is going to be reaping the rewards of the current owners efforts and be driving a very nice car indeed
