2000 Ferrari 360 Modena

Highlights

  • Low mileage
  • Full Ferrari service history
  • Great condition
  • Modern classic on the rise

The Background

From 1999-2004 the Ferrari 360 was the crème of the crop when it came to a mid-engined, two-seater, rear-wheel-drive sports car. It had replaced the outgoing F355 and offered a modern aerodynamic body designed by Pininfarina.

The fixed-roof coupe was named the Modena, the birthplace of Enzo Ferrari. It came with a naturally aspirated V8 producing near on 400 brake horsepower, with a redline set at 8,700 rpm it is a true Ferrari that barks nicely when you’re pressing on.

It came with a choice of either a 6-speed gated manual or the electrohydraulic ‘F1’ automated manual transmission. For the past few years, the 360 has sat in the shadow of its younger brother, the 430, but with the price of 360’s becoming ever more attainable, it is soon to become a true modern classic.

The History

With this car having had six previous owners it is not easy to build a solid understanding of where this car has been over the past 22 years. What we can do is try and piece together its history through the service book and assorted paperwork that comes in a neat little folder.

It appears that the story of this 360 Modena finished in Grigio Titanio starts out on the 6th of September 2000 in Exeter at the Olympic Ferrari dealership where it heads to its first owner in the Cheddar area of Somerset. Whether or not it stays with this first owner for long is hard to tell considering the first stamp in the service book is for H.R Owen in London.

After this one stamp from H.R Owen of London, it appears to move up the country to the Loughborough/Nottingham area where it stays for up until 2020 where a new Ferrari stamp appears for a dealer in West Lothian, Scotland. For a car with so few miles, it has certainly travelled around the UK.

What is clear to see is that the previous 6 owners have all understood the need for regular and meticulous servicing. On a car like this, it is imperative that you keep to the recommended intervals and take it to a Ferrari main dealer or independent specialist at least.

When we look at the service history for this 360 it is wonderful to see. From 2003 it has received Ferrari main dealer services. With the most recent service taking place on the 1st of March 2021 where the cambelts were also changed.

Just to show how well looked after this car has been the service history has been photographed and is available to view in the gallery below.

The Paperwork

There is a fair amount of paperwork that will come with this car, the obligatory V5 is present showing 6 previous owners. There are also a vast number of invoices that show some of the works that have been completed to the car, some of which range in the thousands to keep this car in tip-top condition.

One of the most intriguing pieces of paperwork that is present in the bundle is one for a Challenge Stradale Gearbox ECU. With this new gearbox ECU, you should now get quicker and smoother gear changes, making it easier to live within the modern motoring world.

Once you start digging through the paperwork it is clear to see that it has been looked after properly with no expense spared on the maintenance. One of the biggest bills within the stack is dated 2012 and 18,400 miles, this was for a new clutch.

With so many invoices present, it should put a prospective buyer's mind at ease that this car hasn’t been run on a shoestring budget and is ready to use.

The Interior

With the car only having 36,000 miles on the clock and a paper trail that shows how well it has been looked after mechanically it should come as no surprise that the interior is in great condition with only a few little areas that a new owner may want to see to.

To being with it is finished in a beautiful blue leather that compliments the silver exterior amazingly. The two front seats are in great condition, with no rips or tears to the leather they are a wonderfully comfortable seat to sit back in and watch the miles roll by. The rest of the leather within the interior is in great condition too, with only a few minor scuffs to the door cards, these should come off with a bit of leather cleaner and an afternoon.

Something that blights 360’s, in particular, is a phenonium simply known as ‘sticky buttons’ this is where the soft touch rubberised material that covers some of the interior buttons changes to become weirdly sticky. No one knows why they do this but there are companies out there now that will help refurbish these buttons to their former glory.

With the cabin being in such great condition it is no surprise that the front boot is also in great condition, fitted with a 6 CD multi changer from the factory it is a nice throwback to the early noughties. The carpet-lined boot is large, big enough for a weekend bag for when you visit the Yacht in the south of France.

Within the boot, you not only find the multi-changer but also a lovely leather-bound documents holder that is fastened to the bulkhead with beautiful buckles. Containing a few bits of original Ferrari literature, it is nice to see that this has been preserved for future owners.

With the buttons being the only real niggle on the interior of this 360 it is clear to see that it has been looked after well throughout its 22-year life.

The Exterior

Thanks to the simple and sweeping lines of the exterior the 360 is now a timeless piece of design that you can’t help but stare at when one passes you by. The exterior of this 360 is finished in silver, or should we say, Grigio Titanio, doesn’t everything sound so much better in Italian.

The paintwork is in great condition with the nose showing little to no signs of stone chips. The headlight lenses are nice and clear with no cracking or hazing to the material. There is a receipt within the bundle that references the alloys having a refurb not so long ago, this is probably why they look stunning today.

We cannot talk about the exterior without talking about the clear engine bay cover. When you stand at the rear of the car and pear in you are met with the big V8. With the classic red Ferrari valve cover leading straight back to the plenums, it is just a work of art and when you hear it running it just adds to the allure of the mid-engined Ferrari.

There are no obvious areas of damage on the exterior which again proves how well this car has been looked after.

The Mechanics

Fitted with the 3.6L V8 and the automated manual F1 gearbox this 360 is as good at cruising along as it is at ten-tenths. The gearbox will take a little bit of time to get used to, but we must remember that back in the day this was the cutting edge of mechanical technology. Ferrari was of course the first F1 manufacturer to bring in the semi-automatic where it has now gone on to be part of everyday cars.

On the way to the photoshoot location, the semi-automatic gearbox performed as expected, changing gears nicely with a reassuring feeling.

This gearbox is a lot better if you manually change the gears with the paddles behind the steering wheel, it would appear that other owners worked this out too as they do show some signs of use.

With the level of maintenance that this car has received over the past 20 plus years, it is no surprise that it is mechanically sound with no obvious issues that need to be rectified as soon as possible. The new owner will be picking up an excellent example of a modern classic Ferrari for a fraction of the price that it was when it rolled off the production line.

The Appeal

No matter your interest in cars, it is likely that you adore Ferrari. A poster brand for so many young and old people alike this is your chance to buy into the dream of living with a Ferrari. With this being a product of the prancing horse, it is bound to be an amazing car to drive. With all the documented history that is available with this 360 Modena, it is one to watch.

If you imagine the millions of Euros that Ferrari ploughed into the development of this car it now offers amazing value for money. You could have this 2-seat, V8 Ferrari full of fizz and flamboyance for the same price as a new but soulless German SUV, it is a no-brainer.
