2000 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Manual

Highlights

  • A rare and sought-after manual version of the beautiful DB7 Vantage
  • A winning colour combination of Aston Martin Racing Green over green leather interior
  •  A very low mileage car with just two owners and a full-service history

The Background

The original DB7 was introduced in 1994 and was positioned as the “entry-level” Aston Martin below the V8 Virage. The design concept started life as a potential successor to the Jaguar XJS but the stunning Ian Callum design was eventually green-lit by Ford, Aston’s then owner, as a new Aston Martin model.
To add some spice to the mix, a considerably more powerful DB7 V12 Vantage arrived in 1999. The mighty 5.9L V12 engine was good for 420bhp giving the manual version a mighty performance.

Sixty miles per hour was attainable in under 5 seconds and the manual, as featured here, topped out at around 186 mph.

The History

This example is incredibly lightly used. The current owner is the car’s second only owner having purchased the car at 3 years old having only covered 3,000 miles.

He has been a great custodian of the car and it is very hard indeed to highlight any aspect of the car that doesn’t warrant a “factory-fresh” description.
The car has still only covered just over thirteen thousand miles meaning that the car has covered an average of just 600 miles per year of its life. Other projects and general lack of use now means that this pristine and beautiful DB7 Vantage is now available to a new lucky owner.

The Paperwork

The car is supplied with the current UK V5 in the name of the current owner. The original manual is also present, and the service section contains a full set of stamps covering the life of the car. No expense has been spared in keeping this car in the amazing condition it enjoys today.
The car was selected to attend the 2005 Royal Windsor St. George’s Day Festival of Aston Martin. The paperwork archive includes the invitation letter, commemorative number plate and a picture of the car passing in front of the Queen.

A lovely and unique piece of provenance.

The Interior

The interior is beautifully judged and considered by many to be one of Aston Martin’s best. The soft Connolly leather sports seats are dressed in green leather with an embossed Aston Martin winged logo on the backrest.

Various other parts of the interior are trimmed in the same supple hide including dash, door cards and centre console.
Dark walnut veneer accents on the dash and doors adds an additional luxury ambiance as if any were needed.
Given the history of the car it will be no surprise to hear that it is in excellent condition throughout with no areas of imperfection noted or reported.

The Exterior

The glorious Aston Martin Racing Green paintwork appears to be faultless and is a colour that suits the elegance and muscularity of the car very well indeed. All glass and light lenses are clear and bright with no visible imperfections.
All panel gaps are tight and symmetrical, and doors, bonnet and boot lids all open and close positively. The car features the optional wire mesh grille provides a stylish alternative to the standard slatted version and comprises upper and lower grilles, crafted in stainless steel.
The ten spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels present in excellent condition with no dents or kerb rash being evident. The car is shod in high-quality 245/40ZR18 Bridgestone S-02 tyres all round.

The Mechanics

The DB7 Vantage can boast two Aston Martin “firsts” when it comes to the mighty 5.9L engine at the heart of the machine. It was the first 12-cylinder Aston Martin and the first Vantage model to have an entirely new engine rather than a tuned version of the standard engine.
And what an engine it is! Immensely powerful and torquey with 85% of its mammoth torque delivered from only 1,500 rpm. At launch this car was capable of a 0-100mph sprint in a mere 11.4 seconds. A real feat today, let alone 22 years ago.
Given the low mileage of the car and the exemplary maintenance record it will come as no surprise that the current owner reports that all mechanical systems are in excellent order and that the car provides a highly dynamic and memorable driving and ownership experience.

The Appeal

The DB7 is widely feted as one of the world’s best-looking cars. This Vantage in its amazing colourway is genuinely jaw-dropping to look at. The interior is exquisite providing comfort, luxury and sportiness in equal measure.
With its mighty V12 power plant and the sound and performance that it delivers this has to be one of the great Aston Martin GT cars from a special time in the marque’s history.

Add in the minuscule mileage, two careful owners,  full and fastidious service history and scarce manual gearbox and this is surely a classic that will continue to appreciate like few others available today.
