The Appeal
In the late 90s Volvo found its creative mojo. The most obvious sign of that was Richard Rydell and Jan Lammers hooning the firm’s mad BTCC estate cars around Thruxton and Brands on two wheels. But it was also there in the showrooms, first with the 850 and then with the similar but updated V70 R like this car.
Finished in smart mid-blue metallic with a grey leather and fabric interior, it is a very tidy example of these increasingly popular cars. Alongside the emotional appeal of that rumbly 5-pot 2.5L 265bhp engine, there is the practical pull of its seven seat layout.
The condition is due to the low mileage and full Volvo service history until it went into long term dry storage. Purists will note that it is a factory-standard, unmodified car. Said by the seller to drive very well with a smooth, quiet engine.
