The Appeal
With more than 6,000 sold between 1992 and 2003, the Chimaera became TVR’s best-selling model - which is no mean feat when it’s reported Peter Wheeler’s dog, Ned, was partly responsible for its design after attacking a polystyrene model of the car during development!
While we feel we must highlight Ned’s contribution, it's probably more likely the Chimaera owes its success to how it added a dimension of usability to TVR’s trademark lairy performance. Hitherto, TVRs the sort of car you adored but couldn’t justify, but the Chimaera changed all that. It was comfortable, had a big boot, and a (relatively) straightforward convertible roof prompting some owners to use their Chimaeras as daily transport.
This 1999 example has clearly been well maintained and comes with an advisory-free MOT valid until 22nd April 2025. Its well-stamped service book is a reassuring sight and the car presents beautifully throughout, especially when you consider it’s now 25 years old.
With summer fast approaching, what a brilliant car this would be to have in your arsenal.
