The Appeal
The joy of a Pilgrim Sumo is that it is much more than a recreation of one of motoring’s most evocative sports cars. These Ford-based cars with their light, Cologne V6 motors are as potent and agile as a modern classic.
This low mileage Pilgrim was built and correctly DVLA registered in 1999 and has since covered only 8,300 miles. Naturally it is in very good condition, enhanced by a set of expensive Hallibrand knock-offs.
It runs as well as it looks thanks to a recent top end rebuild of the 2.8L V6 Cologne motor alongside extensive other work such as a carburettor rebuild. It is good for 193bhp according to a recent Dyno report. The motor sits well back in the chassis for excellent weight distribution and will surely sound great through those big side exit tubes.
The car has covered few miles since its last service in 2023 and comes to market with an advisory-free MOT. It will be ready to use and enjoy as the weather begins to improve.
The vendor writes:
“Once warmed up it ticks over very well, and revs evenly. The addition of the electric fuel pump means there is no lag or fuel starvation which was a problem. The lighter V6 in the front pulls well and enables good handling around the corners. Brakes are very good. Great fun to drive.
“I love the looks and engine noise. It has been reliable so I have been happy to take it out on long runs.”
