HIGHLIGHTS
- Sought-after model
- Low mileage
- One owner car
- Excellent service history
THE APPEAL
With just over 100 200 SX thought to be taxed and running on the UK roads, this UK Spec classic is somewhat of a rare sight. Not only a rare model, but it’s even more rare to have not fallen into the JDM modified category and used for racing or drifting. Instead, it has been with the vendor from day one and remains in its original condition.
The car is a desirable manual model and has been well maintained throughout its life, as you can see from the number of service stamps and invoices accumulated. There are some areas which would benefit from some attention, but it’s definitely worth it to own an 80,000-mile classic.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Registered 22nd December 1999
- One owner car
- There are two previous keepers shown on the V5C. The car was purchased as a contract-hire company car. One was the contract-hire company, and the other was the vendor’s partner. This was done for VAT legislation reasons and then transferred to the vendor's name at a later date. But it has only been the vendor himself who has driven the 200 SX
- Original Owner’s Handbook
- Original service book
- 22 service stamps
- The last service carried out in December 2021 at 80,782 miles
- Clarion head unit instruction booklet
- 20 previous MOT certificates
- Current MOT valid until 9th November 2023
- Expired tax discs
- Two keys
- Three key fobs, and one is the master fob
- Original sales brochure
- Large collection of invoices for work carried out over the years.
THE INTERIOR
- Original interior
- Blue velour seats
- The seats are in very good condition with minimal signs of any wear; they would benefit from an upholstery clean
- The door cards are free from any damage
- Rear seats are in good order with no real signs of ageing
- The dashboard is free from any splits or cracks
- No warning lights are present on the instrument cluster when the car is running. The rev counter needle does work intermittently
- The odometer shows a reading of 80,832 miles
- The switch gear looks in good condition with no wear to the lettering. It is said to be working correctly, apart from the air conditioning, but this has not been investigated
- There is a clarion radio cassette which does work, but there are no cassette tapes to check that side of the unit
- The carpets are very good with just a few light marks which could easily be cleaned
- No sagging was noted on the headlining
- The boot is nice and clean with the jack and spare wheel present. The vendor comments that “the spare wheel has only been on twice from new”
THE EXTERIOR
- Finished in Sapphire Blue (BN6 paint code)
- The panel gaps are equal and matching around the car
- There are a couple of minor dings, one on the passenger rear quarter and the door
- Some age-related corrosion is present around both rear wheel arches, but not too late to be rectified
- The paintwork presents well; there are a few odd marks here and there in keeping with the age of the 200 SX
- There has been some welding to the sills, which has been covered over by waxoyl or a stone-guard product
- The windows are in good condition, with no noticeable scratches. The door windows operate as they should, going up and down
- Headlights, indicators and fog lights are in good condition with no spits or cracks. There is a small split in the off-side side light lens.
- The rear light units are in excellent condition with no splits or condensation present
- The underside has had some welding repairs over the years, and there are signs of corrosion to some parts of the floor and suspension components.
- All of the wheels present well, with no kerb damage. The paint finish has dulled slightly but could easily be refurbished
- All of the tyres have a good amount of tread remaining
THE MECHANICS
- Unmolested 2.0 litre turbo
- 197bhp and 195lb-ft of torque
- Five-speed manual gearbox
- Rear-wheel drive
- Stainless steel exhaust was fitted last year, which included two cats
- A new starter motor and fuel pump were fitted in November 2022
- The gear change is said to be smooth and precise
- Slight lumpiness was reported on cold start-up, which lasts for approximately 30 seconds
- No untoward noises are coming from the engine bay
- Some welding has been carried out around the front suspension turrets and covered in the same stone guard or waxoyl as the sills
- New track rod ends were fitted in March 2021
- No knocks or bangs have been reported to come from the suspension
- The 200 SX comes to a stop in a straight line and has no juddering through the pedal
SUMMARY
What an excellent car for the JDM fans amongst you. The Nissan 200 SX is a desirable choice for many who want to get into the drifting scene. With its tunable SR20DET engine and five-speed manual gearbox, this 200 SX is waiting for its next adventure, be it down the modified route or equally as nice for it to be preserved as the true Japanese classic it is.
