1999 Mercedes-Benz S500

Highlights

  • Low mileage and full service history
  • Nice spec with massage seats
  • Good original condition

BACKGROUND

Introduced in 1999 the Mercedes W220 S Class continued to uphold Mercedes status as one of the best saloon cars in the world.
Offered with many engine variants, the S500 sported a 5.0 litre V8, capable of delivering seamless power and acceleration and continent crushing GT capabilities.
The S Class saloons also deliver a huge portion of passenger comfort and safety with air suspension and with many creature comforts it makes a superb GT car, capable of high speed effortless cruising for hours on end.

HISTORY

First delivered by Mercedes Dealership Bradshaw and Webb of Chelsea, London, the car was maintained and serviced for its first 6 years by them, and then by specialists Harringtons of Fulham in the hands of its second and last owner.

PAPERWORK

The car comes with its V5c showing 2 previous keepers, the original wallet containing the owner’s manual, Command manual and stamped up Service Book, together with various MOT certificates from the last few years.
The current MOT expires in November 2022 and the car comes with one remote key.

INTERIOR

The well-equipped S500 interior is nicely finished in Black Leather with front electric massage seats, sunroof, air conditioning, cruise control and sat nav. It also features the pop-up rear headrests to aid those reversing manoeuvres.
The interior has fared well over the years with only the odd scuff and small scratch to the odd bit of trim worth recording here. The carpets, headlining and door cards all present very well and the wood trim inlays used in the cabin still have their high gloss lustre to them and the car has Mercedes floor mats throughout.
The boot is nice and dry and carries the space saver spare wheel, most of the original tools supplied with the car, and a warning triangle.

EXTERIOR

The Brilliant Silver paintwork is in good overall condition except for the front and rear bumper and boot lid, where you can see the lacquer peeling away from the paint.
Other than that, the paintwork is free from any damage and even stone chips, save for a small area on the bonnet which could do with some attention.
The alloy wheels are all scuffed around the outside of the rims, but all the rubber seals and exterior chrome work and trim are all in a nice clean and bright condition, and the indicator lens on the driver’s door mirror has a very small crack in it.
Under the bonnet the big V8 looks clean and ready to do its job and there are no obvious signs of any coolant or oil leaks to be seen.

MECHANICS

This S class has what every potential bidder is looking for, that is a nice and complete service history for all the car’s years on the road.
The last service was in 2020 at 63,000 miles, since which time the car has covered very little further mileage and the current owner reports that the car starts and drives just like a top of the range Mercedes should, with no issues or faults to address.

APPEAL

The S Series from Mercedes have always been built to a very high standard using the very latest technology available to provide both driver and occupants with the best possible driving experience and levels of comfort and safety.
The S500, with its powerful V8, delivers a great deal of car for the money and would certainly be a modern-day classic that should be totally useable as a daily drive and a great pleasure to own. If you’re looking for that perfect balance of luxury and power, you may have just found it.
