The Appeal
Land Rover has been keen to engage with its heritage for a long time now and it’s easy to see why with such an illustrious back catalogue. Most will associate ‘Heritage Edition’ with the 2015 run-out Defenders, but this was by no means the firm’s first foray into retro-inspired special editions…
Back in 1999, following the success of a ‘50th Anniversary’ edition the previous year, Land Rover announced that they would build 300 ‘Heritage Edition’ Defender. As it transpired, they’d go on to build just 270, of which we’re delighted to offer one of them. For obvious reasons, this is one of the most desirable Defender special editions and we love the colour scheme in particular.
Under the bonnet, we find the venerable TD5 engine which in this example has been remapped to 150 bhp. A higher ration transfer box further enhances on-road usability, and a galvanised chassis winter-proofs the underside. If you’re after a Defender for everyday use, this could well be it.
