The Appeal

When it comes to Land Rover Defenders, there isn’t much that can be said that hasn’t already been said. With its instantly recognizable body shape, rugged utilitarian looks, and even tougher go-anywhere set of capabilities, the Defender is a real and enduring workhorse that has found its way into many of our hearts as a model representation of what a 4x4 should be.
This gorgeous 110 example in particular has been kept up to a high standard and modified tastefully. With rear side tinted panorama glass, the boxy-yet-sleek lines of the defender are accented with a flat tinted panel, but passengers can still see out. Built with urban styling in mind, this Defender has seen a range of urban-styled updates, many lifted from the more recent 2007+ ‘Puma’ Defenders, and some high-quality aftermarket options as well. Along with a recent restoration over the last two years, this 110 has seen a full strip-down with introduction of multiple levels of sound deadening, a repaint, and updated interior bits.

This one is indeed a prime candidate for anyone looking to get into the world of Land Rover, even with its city-smart looks and updated cabin, this one is still fully capable of getting dirty offroad. Recently fitted with a brand-new clutch, gearbox, and transfer case it’s ready and eager to take on more miles.

The History and Paperwork

  • Current V5
  • Imported from Lithuania, but lived vast majority of its life in Germany
  • Current MOT valid until 2nd July 2024
  • Recent Panoramic rear window glass conversion
  • Recent restoration including full strip-down, updated sound deadening, and repaint
  • Invoices and history file is thin, but some importation documents present
  • Owner states new clutch, short shifter, gearbox, and transfer box fitted recently
  • Only 1 owner in UK
  • TD5 engine in place and running well
Originally hailing from Germany where it lived most of its life, this original left-hand-drive 110 County was recently imported for a very brief period to Lithuania, where it was reportedly not driven at all, then immediately imported into the UK by the current owner. Coming from a relatively dry part of Germany, this 110 was—and still is—in immaculate order, showing no signs of corrosion or rust past very light surface level.
With intention to use and drive the truck, the current owner set out to modify it to their liking, introducing a more urban, street styling to the truck, and making it a bit more comfortable while still acknowledging its natural offroad capabilities. They’ve fitted many updated Land Rover parts from the more recent 2007+ 110s, and have also installed a few third-party parts of high quality, utilizing the strong aftermarket support and cult following these trucks have.
In addition to the modifications, the truck has also seen a partial strip-down where the vehicle received multiple layers of sound deadening in the floors, dashboard, and even the roof, to quiet down the interior and provide a bit more comfort for those long journeys. At the same time, the truck also saw a professional repaint from its original blue colourway, now standing proud with its grey and black colour theme, accenting its urban styling.

The Interior

  • Overall good condition and lightly used interior, better than most defenders seen
  • Owner states all buttons, switches, knobs, and gauges function correctly
  • Sound deadening enhances quiet luxury interior feel
The interior is in great usable and luxurious condition, a far upgrade from the farm truck it began life as. With updates seen all around, this one is sure to please both the more rugged offroad crowd and also the luxury-oriented owners as it shows an elegant mixing of both elements.
Starting with the dashboard, we have a great condition updated centre console, fitted with an aftermarket touchscreen including satnav and reverse camera, a gauge pod showing clock, amps, and voltage, a switchboard for lights, defrost, and windshield wipers, as well as heater controller. The custom centre console surround is finished in a high-quality faux leather, and matches with the reast of the dashboard and interior trim.
The truck has been fitted with an Eberspacher Hydronic water heating system, which is said to produce more-than-sufficient heating on top of the Land Rover system, and contributes to an overall excellent heating system. This is controlled through use of a centre console mounted controller and is capable of automatic and direct input control.
We also have aftermarket front seats, console armrest, and MOMO steering wheel, all accenting the styling theme of the truck as well as improving the ergonomics and overall luxury feel of the interior, all in like-new condition.
Looking to the middle cabin section, we see the rear seats from a more recent 2007+ model defender, in great condition overall but showing a ~15cm rip that has been sewn shut as pictured. Also fitted below the feet, we see a plush carpet topper in great condition, just needing a deep clean if desired.
Getting to the rear van compartment, the styling and overall condition is mirrored here with great condition rear folding bench seats, plush carpet topper, and a very well-finished panorama window kit. It is worth noting, the truck would benefit from a deep clean, as the current owner’s dogs have left a fair bit of hair in the rear compartment, however there were no characteristic dog smells whatsoever.
We also must note that the whole interior was stripped bare, when the current owner fit multiple layers of sound deadening as pictured. This contributes greatly to a sense of a contained, well-built, and luxuriously smooth and quiet operation.

The Exterior

  • Exterior in overall excellent condition, some scuffs but overall very tidy with straight body
  • Grey paintwork without any signs of aging or fading
  • Underside condition is excellent, with no obvious signs of anything more than surface corrosion, protected underneath
The exterior of this Defender ahs received a very well treatment. Originally a blue colourway, the current owner has opted for a more urban styled medium grey. With this styling in mind, they’ve also fitted quite a few parts from the more updated Defenders as well as aftermarket parts, including but not limited to the below exterior parts:
  • Updated front grille
  • Updated front light surrounds
  • Updated checker-plate finish bonnet side plates
  • Updated checker-plate finish side steps and sill protectors extending to the front and rear bumpers
  • Aftermarket front and rear heavy-duty steel bumpers
  • Updated tire carrier and spare tire cover
  • Panoramic rear glass window kit
  • Smoked side markers
  • Aftermarket Optimill locking fuel cap
  • Uprated front and rear LED lighting
  •  Carbon fibre bonnet
With these changes, the vehicle’s look has transformed from its humble farm-truck roots to a new and updated more modern styling that would fit right at home in London or truly any other metropolitan area.
The condition of the exterior is really quite good, with no seen visible damage, excellent paintwork, and glossy plastics and steel everywhere one looks. The updated exterior parts have been kept in great nick and show no signs of abuse.
The panorama rear glasswork is in great order, installed to a high standard in remaining in great condition. We did notice an area of marks on the glass on the left side of the rear corner glass, as seen from the rear, but this may not be permanent.
However, we did note that there is some slight fading of the top finish layer on the carbon fibre bonnet, which could be improved with a polish. We also see some very mild cracking in the right side heavy duty bumper corner piece.
The wheels and tires are in great like-new condition, with no signs of kerb damage and likely having been refurbished in their lifetime.

The Mechanics

  • Engine bay in great visual condition, some surface corrosion present on cast iron bits, but nothing to be alarmed about
  • 2495cc TD5 petrol engine runs strong and incredibly smooth, starts without any hesitation
  • Owner states new clutch, gearbox, and transfer box shifts smoothly and 4x4 in great working condition
  • Owner states the vehicle stops, starts, accelerates, and handles as good or better than expected for the age
The current owner has not neglected the mechanical condition of the vehicle either, with upgrades seen to the suspension and running gear seen as well. While the engine remains completely standard and in fine working order, the owner has fitted a new clutch, gearbox, short shifter, and transfer box. While invoices for these are not present, the visual condition of these parts does seem to agree, see photos.
The engine bay is in great visual condition, with no signs of any issues seen. The owner has fitted a battery lead relocator, traced from under the seats to the inside of the engine bay, which can been hooked up to keep the batteries topped off during storage.
The suspension has also been updated with new heavy-duty springs and Bilstein shock absorbers as well, to balance out the heavy-duty bumpers in front and rear, and allow for smooth and easy towing if desired. We also noticed a Bilstein steering damper up front.
Its worth noting as well that all rubbers and bushes underneath seem to be in great condition, having been replaced at some point in their careers, and showing little signs of wear.
The underside itself shows very little signs of any corrosion, and is covered with a thick layer of sealant to protect the metal from rust into the future.
The owner states it drives like a champ, never missing a beat, and always starts up first turn. Without any known mechanical issues, and a recent overhaul of the most important bits of the truck, this one is indeed in a fully sound mechanical state.

Summary

As far as Defenders go, this one is very tidy and has a real personality. Its rugged and ready-for-anything attitude is balanced well with the urban-styled adornments and panoramic windows in the rear. The windows are a real subtle touch of elegance thrown in against the rest of the truck’s tough-yet-refined demeanour. At first glance, the heavy tinted panoramic windows are difficult to pick up on as it looks like a van back, but when you see that it’s glass, it really leaves you wondering why Land Rover never made something like this from the factory.
This Defender is ready to take whatever you can think to throw at it, whether that’s a life of luxury strolling down the city streets, country lanes, or perhaps it’s sill-deep in mud and grime on the green lanes; this one looks to be ready and willing to get you there and back in comfort and style.
