The Appeal
For a company founded on utilitarian army 4x4s in a country proud of its no-nonsense pick-ups, the original Grand Cherokee was something quite different. But it wasn’t a new idea - just like Britain’s Range Rover, this was a luxurious 4x4 designed to be as comfortable off road as on it.
Jeeps’ new SUV did all that brilliantly. The 4litre straight six was both powerful and ruggedly reliable and Limited specification provided all the toys that buyers from the land of plenty and beyond could ever want. A final facelift in 1996 added more luxury before the last ZJs were built in 1999.
This late model Limited is a Grand Cherokee unicorn: a very low mileage vehicle with just three registered keepers. These separate chassis Grand Cherokees are popular as tow vehicles but this one has apparently never been used for that work. Its 42,000 miles from new is reflected in the remarkable timewarp condition.
A new MOT looks like a formality on such a well kept vehicle. Once completed the buyer gets one of the best-regarded 4x4s of the last 30 years.
