The Appeal
First there was the 916, the bike that utterly transformed Ducati’s fortunes in showrooms and on the race track. Then there was the 996, which was even better. What made these bikes viscerally appealing was their perfect blend of form and function. They were devastatingly capable. And utterly beautiful.
The story of those bikes is also the story of Carl Fogarty. Foggy, King Carl. One of the greatest motorbike racers of all time. To celebrate his success, Ducati built 202 996s based on the high performance lightweight 124bhp ‘Sport Production Special’ SPS for UK market customers.
This is one of them - bike number 134. The 996SPS Carl Fogarty is as much a design piece as track weapon and this one has leant firmly into the former. It has covered just 600kms from new, much of its life spent as a decorative addition in the homes of its trio of keepers.
It is in the kind of condition that you would expect of such sparing display use. A quick run through the photos provides all the reassurance you need that this is a bike in exceptional condition. It reaches market with its full package of factory handbooks plus some older maintenance invoices.
It is in track specification with an array of carbon features and could easily be checked and prepped for the road if required. Whichever direction you choose to go in, this is one magnificent bike.
