The Appeal

Believe it or not, the Caterham 7 has now been in production for 51 years, edging it into the record books as the longest serving new car still in production, albeit somewhat different form the days when it was essentially a Lotus Seven in all but name.

Based on the 1956-69 version of the Seven, the Caterham has been offered as either a kit or a fully completed car for the past five decades. This one is from near the middle of that – a 1999 car with a 1.6-litre Rover Group K-Series engine. It’s a properly registered car (not a Q-plate) and has been very well loved and maintained.

It comes with a folder of bills and paperwork, lots of old MOTs and has just had a fresh major cambelt service ahead of sale, as well as a new MOT valid until June 2025.

If you want four-wheeled fun, then you can’t get many more smiles per mile than you can get from a Caterham. Basic they may be, but they’re also unbelievably entertaining to drive – the perfect summer plaything or track day companion as well as one of the all-time classic sports cars.
