The Appeal
No introduction is necessary for the Mini. An institution in itself the Alec Issigonis designed super-mini sparked an entire genre of car that is still with us today. 1996-2000 would be the final years of the Mini as we knew it. Entering its 7th generation and outliving its supposed replacement (the Metro) it’s safe to say that the Mini was an icon that the British public couldn’t get enough of.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered on the 26th of June 1998
- Delivered new to Epsom, Surrey
- It has since worked its way across the country to Norfolk
- The current owners have had the car since 2018
- They have used it sparingly and on special occasions
- This has preserved the condition and kept the mileage low
- There is a good amount of paperwork with this car
- From old MOT certificates to assorted invoices for work completed over the years
- It had some work completed in April 2023
- This included a new handbrake cable, steering rack gaiters, and an MOT
- An invoice from 2019 specifies a service that was completed
- At the time the odometer read 42,420
- This shows how sparingly this classic has been used over the years
- It’s now your chance to add to this car's interesting history
The Interior
- The interior of this Mini is as eye-catching as the exterior
- Trimmed in a funky cloth the interior is presented very well indeed
- The two front seats are presented without rips, tears, or stains on the fabric
- In the rear, the bench seat is also in fantastic condition
- The black carpets have been protected by special over mats
- Embroidered with what appears to be the cars name, Mabel, they are a great addition to the interior
- The black steering wheel is in great condition with no undue wear present
- Behind this steering wheel, you’ll find the essential driving gauges
- These provide information on your speed, revs, fuel level, water temperature
- They are set into a beautiful wood-veneered dashboard
- Spanning the width of the interior it is presented very well indeed
- There are some very small areas where the veneer has come away but it's in great condition otherwise
- Up top the headliner looks to be in good condition with only a few marks
- Towards the rear, the boot presented well
- Trimmed in a dark grey carpet it is big enough for the essentials
- Overall, the inside of this Mini is present very well for its age
The Exterior
- Finished in a stunning burnt orange this Mini is certainly a head turner
- Across the body panels, this paint appears to be in very good condition
- These Minis are known to suffer from corrosion
- There is a small area in the middle of the windscreen, but this was the largest area observed
- A few smaller areas of isolated paint bubbling were photographed around the car
- This was sold to the current owners as ‘unmolested and unrestored’ so it is believed to be original body panels/paint
- The brightwork front and rear still retain a nice sheen
- Adorning the bonnet and bottoms of the doors are some fetching decals
- Its pepper pot style alloys appear to all be in great condition
- There are a few areas on the doors where the paint has scratched away but this is the only area where this has happened
- Thanks to its design and colour this Mini should manage to turn a few heads when you’re out
- Overall, this Rover Mini is presented in great exterior condition
The Mechanics
- Powered by a 1275cc engine
- Fitted with a 4-speed manual gearbox
- Serviced less than 100 miles ago
- Unmodified mechanicals
- On the day of the photos, the Mini woke from its sleep quickly
- It then drove out of the garage and manoeuvred around the drive
- It seemed to select first and reverse with ease
- No grinding noises were heard from the gearbox when shifting between the two
- Its MOT lasts until April 2024
- The low mileage should have preserved the mechanical elements
- Overall, this Mini is presented in good running condition
Summary
This Mini is a great example of a British icon. Its fetching burnt orange exterior colour matches the eye-catching interior well and makes this car a proper looker. You are going to have lots of fun behind the wheel of this pocket-sized classic.
