The Appeal

The R129 was a clear bit of modernisation effort for Mercedes-Benz, and is often hailed as one of the company's last truly definitive, rock-solid roadsters. Beautifully engineered, and keeping much of what made its predecessor, the R107, so great, it's little wonder that these impressive, rugged and powerful cars continue to garner so much attention from modern enthusiasts.

Finished in Brilliant Silver, with a sumptuous Black Leather cabin, this SL320 has been consistently driven and regularly maintained, and comes complete with an MOT until July 2025. It's ready and waiting to hit the road - and we've no doubt it'll charm its lucky new keeper.

The Condition

Brilliant Silver paintwork presents well with expected age-related marks
These mostly amounts to the odd scratch or chip - nothing overly intrusive
No signs of any significant corrosion
Mercedes-Benz ‘Monkar’ alloy wheels are presentable with minor kerb marks
Tyres still have decent tread, but may be due for replacement
Electro-hydraulic roof system operates correctly, with some stitching wear on the hood
Not supplied with a hard top, though these are easy to come by
Black leather interior shows some wear but is in good condition for the mileage
No sign of any rips or tears - only gentle cracking and creasing to the upholstery
All instruments are clear and legible
Wooden veneers cast a nice, bright contrast
All electrics, including windows, mirrors, and seat adjustments, are functional
Air conditioning operates correctly, blowing both hot and cold

The Mechanics

3.2-litre M112 V6
5-speed automatic transmission
Engine bay is in good condition
We understand the car to be mechanically standard
Brake discs and pads were an advisory on the last MOT, and will soon be due for replacement
The vendor reports that the car starts well from both hot and cold, with smooth gear selection
We're informed that the steering is tight and suspension feels as it should
