Highlights
- Rare 2.0-litre petrol version of the inimitable Golf Syncro
- Excellent potential for a restoration project
- Equipped with a tow bar
The plus
All-wheel drive underwent an image change in the early 1980s, with the advent of the Audi Quattro, which demonstrated that the technology could do much more than propel farm trucks. Volkswagen introduced a Golf with four-wheel drive in 1985 and the extra traction was well received by customers.
Here we have an example of a 1997 MkIII in need of restoration. You rarely come across a Syncro with the 2.0-litre petrol engine as most were fitted with VR6 or 1.9-litre Tdi engines, making this one quite rare.
Complete and largely original, it has a lot of potential.
