The Background
Based on the Shadow platform, but lower, wider and more aerodynamic, the all alumnium V8 was tweaked for more power and the suspension updated for a smoother ride. The Silver Spirit was the same length as the older car but its new sibling the Spur was 4 inches longer, giving far more space for rear seat passengers.
The fixtures and fittings were the highest quality, a byword for luxury and perfection. Even the wood of the dash was ‘butterflied’ for a mirror image of the grain.

The History
First registered in 1997 in Cheshire, the Silver Spur spent its first few years in that area, being first serviced by Stratton Rolls Royce ands Bentley dealer and then another prestige car specialist in the Manchester area, before moving to the Isle of man in 2015.
Only lightly used thought out its life, the Rolls Royce only covered an incredible 27,000 miles before recently being brought back the mainland.

The Paperwork
Inside the book pack we find the hardback owners manual in its hard sleeve and the Rolls Royce service book, which was regularly stamped by Stratton Rolls Royce with entries from 1998 until August 2001at 5144, 6589, 7653, 9112, 10,662 and 13,372 miles.
After that the car moved to marque specialists for service but was apparently little used as between 2003 and 2009 the stamps show it only crept up from 17,000 to 23,000. It currently wears its Isle of Man number plates, but has now been registered for the UK again and will have its new plates fitted.

The Interior
The cabin of the Spur is an absolute treat. The soft leather of the seats shows almost no sign of use or wear, and the cream hide extends to the door cards and lower dash, again unmarked and supple, it is accented in blue with piping on the seats, a blue leather dashtop and carpet inserts on the lower doors, matching the deep carpets and lambs wool overmats, which are also like new, only the drivers heel area showing marks from use.
On the door caps and dashboard is the finest timber on any car on the road, and this is in superb condition, the various veneers complimenting exquisitely. In the back the leg room is vast, with more lambs wool, leather and wood - we have the fold down tables and surrounds for the mirrors in the C posts, while overhead the leather headlining is unmarked.
Being a car of the late ‘90s there is plenty of technology behind the traditional facade, there are heated seats front and rear, electric seats, cruise control and air conditioning to name a few. In the boot the blue carpet is in near mint condition and the spare wheel even has a tyre cover to keep the boot clean!

The Exterior
With such low miles on the clock, the bodywork has been spared the rigours of life on the road and the panels are excellent, theres not a ding to be found looking around the car and bar a few stone chips and minor marks the deep metallic blue paint is exceptional. The only defect of note is a small bubble under the paint on the top of the rear drivers door.
The brightwork is excellent, the imposing grill and flying lady are in lovely condition and the badges and door handles are all superb. One of the wheels does have some stone chips in its silvered surface but none of the wheels appear curbed and it has good Avon CR227 thin white wall tyres all round with good tread.

Mechanics
Under the bonnet the big V8 looks free of any leaks from cooling or oil systems, and it fires up easily and idles very smoothly. The automatic gearbox selects Drive and Reverse as it should and manoeuvring for photos engaged smoothly.
The seller tells us it drives very well. Looking under the car, we saw no sign of accident damage and the chassis looks very clean and free of corrosion.

The appeal
While these, being a later model, may be more numerous, it is unusual to find an example with such low mileage as this, and the condition of the interior backs up that mileage, and the exterior suggests it was well cared for and likely garaged for much of its life.
This colour combination of dark blue and cream suits these cars well, and has been carried over to the interior perfectly with its blue accents. It would be hard to find a better example with these miles.
