THE APPEAL
Directly descended from the original 1948 utility Land Rover, the Defender was the last of the 4x4 manufacturer’s truly classic models and has a thriving cult following.
This one is a 1997 County Station Wagon, the seven-seat derivative in very smart and presentable order with no evidence of any past welding. It’s a well-presented example in factory specification, which unlike many Defender 90s is offered in completely stock condition with no modifications.
It has a very smart interior and is finished in one of the best 1990s Land Rover colours – Rioja Red pearlescent. It’s the perfect blank canvas for your own Land Rover build, or is arguably more suited to being preserved as an increasingly rare stock-standard example needing nothing other than some minor cosmetic work to bring it back to immaculate condition.

SUMMARY
Defenders are hugely popular, especially in top-spec County Station Wagon form where they’re a truly brilliant multi-purpose family vehicle as well as an all-time British icon. This one is a great example that is lovely and original – not substantially modified at all and in very smart overall order. Perfect for a Defender build if you want a really good and solid basis from which to start, or ideal for turning into a show example of a completely stock 1990s CSW, of which surviving, original examples are becoming few and far between.
It’s a great spec and colour, and a really smart and mechanically well-sorted example that will be perfect to take to the next level.
