The Appeal

Have you ever sat in traffic in a little hatchback wishing that you could be sitting in something far more comfortable without breaking the bank? Well look no further than this ’97 Jaguar XJ6, it encapsulates everything that is great about this marque. Power, luxury, and classy lines.
This example has been looked after well throughout its life and has spent the last two years with its current owner. They put a bit of money into this car to help get it through the last MOT, but other than this it has been a great luxury barge.

The History and Paperwork

  • Rolling off the production line in February 1997 this Jag has gone on to live a happy life
  • Split between a few owners this car appears to have been looked after well
  • One of the previous owners was an elder gentleman who had to part ways due to it being too difficult for them to get in and out of
  • The current owner has had the car for around two years
  • They’ve had it serviced and had a new back box fitted to the exhaust, including the proper stainless steel tips
  • It is said that paperwork for these works is available
  • Unfortunately, the service book was misplaced by a previous owner
  • Will come with 12 months MOT for new owner
  • It is now your chance to add to this car’s illustrious history
  • Wherever you wish to go, this late ‘90s saloon will take you there in comfort and style
  • Mileage has been confirmed as genuine by the cars previous owner - one of of our own consignors! Service history was present but was lost in the after sale

The Interior

  • No one quite does an interior like Jaguar
  • It is filled with leather and wood trim that elevate this interior into the realms of luxury
  • The seats fitted to the car front and back are extremely comfortable
  • It is almost like traveling 70mph in an armchair, amazing luxury
  • The leather on the seats appears to be in good condition all around, there does look to be a very small tear in the front passenger seat
  • You’d expect that after over 20 years on the road there would be some wear to the driver’s seat, but this example seems to have been well looked after
  • Push button ignition fitted due to problematic ignition switch
  • There is some slight marking on the bottom of the door card, but it could come out with some elbow grease
  • You can see for yourself from the photos that the wood and interior trim are in great condition indeed
  • The grey carpets also appear to mirror the condition of the grey leather seats
  • There is a sunroof fitted to this car
  • It is around the sunroof that you will find some corrosion, this has been photographed
  • It is said that all of the electric gadgetry still works
  • Some of the toys fitted to the interior include the radio, six-disc multi-changer, and of course the aforementioned sunroof
  • There is a slight issue with the electric mirrors, but this should hopefully be an easy fix with a new switch
  • Now it’s your turn to enjoy the joys of thundering down the motorway in a late ‘90s luxurious saloon
  • This is bound to make even the most mundane drive feel special

The Exterior

  • Subtle and classy styling
  • For their age, the alloys are in good condition
  • You may wish to refurbish them during your ownership, but this shouldn’t be a pressing issue
  • Finished in a lovely deep blue colour
  • In general, the paint is in good condition, as you walk round you may find a few spots that aren’t quite like new however
  • One of these areas includes some lacquer peel around the sunroof slot
  • There is also a slight dent to the boot and rear bumper
  • The current owner mentions that they would replace the chrome and have the bumper resprayed, as it has been attacked by a touch-up pen
  • This will look excellent on and off the road, it should be a great-looking addition to your driveway

The Mechanics

  • This is another area where this Jaguar excels
  • Under the bonnet is Jaguar's bulletproof AJ16 3.2l straight six
  • This engine starts on the button and purrs away nicely
  • Push button ignition fitted
  • The gearbox enhances the smooth ride of this luxury barge
  • Out on the road, it is as comfortable as you’d expect
  • There are 72,000 miles on the clock, but this is fairly low mileage for a car of this ilk and age
  • It should be a great comfortable cruiser for any journey you need to take, whether it be a quick trip to the shops or a 6-hour slog up the motorway
  • The current owner has mentioned that this is a great engine and drivetrain, giving you confidence from day one

Summary

This XJ6 is a glorious example of a proper English saloon. For a very reasonable price, you will be getting a high-end luxury driving experience not matched by any other car in the sector.
If you really wanted to, you could spend a little bit of money on this example to bring it up to amazing condition, but it would seem that all of the vital components work as they should. This will be a great addition to your collection that is for sure.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
