1997 BMW 840Ci Sport E31

Highlights

  • BMW Individual paintwork
  • Late 4.4 V8 model
  • Handsome specification with all extras
  • New gearbox fitted 7,500 miles ago
  • In current ownership since it was 3 years old

The Appeal

Bonkers. Bavarian. Beautiful. The E31 was once the flagship model for BMW, featuring design work unlike any other, with hints of the Germans loosening their ties and trying something outside of the norm. And boy, it worked. Pop up headlights, hardtop body style with no B pillars, and menacingly good looks - what’s not to like? To this day, it remains to be one of the most unique and eye-catching models of the marque. Probably the most un-German, German vehicle that you can get your hands on.
This example is presented in a rather handsome BMW individual paint called Daytona Violet Metallic, with a contrasting grey leather interior with black piping - not to mention a lengthy list of optional extras. This is German 90’s opulence at its prettiest.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally registered on the 1st of August 1997

  • Panel gaps all appear to be of factory fitment
  • Headlight and tail light lenses appear to be in good condition with no notable damage
  • All four wheels appear well presented with nice paintwork
  • Arches all appear to be free from visual signs of corrosion
  • Interior is well kept with the leather showing usual signs of wear, driver side bolsters have a little more wear than the rest which is to be expected at this mileage

The Mechanics

  • Rear-wheel drive configuration
  • 282 bhp and 310 lb-ft of torque
  • ‘Sport’ variation which remains mechanically identical apart from lowered suspension
  • Due to the vehicle being on a SORN and last MOT’d in 2023, it would be advisable to give the car a light recommissioning prior to road use
  • We’re informed that the steering and the suspension remain in good health with good pedal feel and a nice road feel
  • Tyres appear to have good tread remaining however we’re unable to confirm the dates on the tyres
