The Appeal
Saab’s 900 convertible has always been one of the best-loved of the Swedish company’s models, with its svelte styling and premium upmarket image.
Loved by enthusiasts across the world, the soft-top SAAB is a desirable thing. Indeed, the “NG” (or new-generation) 900 soft-top was one of the most popular and sought-after cabrios of the 1990s, popular with the aspirational and upwardly mobile thanks to its premium image and high specification.
Today, it’s a classic in its own right – a car with a cult following, as good examples get harder and harder to find and Nineties cars are part of a thriving movement of their own.
This one is an early example, a 1996 model, in non-turbocharged 900 S format, with a five-speed manual transmission.
It’s a really smart and genuine, unrestored, example of the breed, sold with a long MOT valid until April 2025. The vendor acquired it from an owner in London earlier this year, after the car had been parked up following the 2021 extension of the ULEZ zone. Now returned to the road after a three-year lay-up and freshly recommissioned, it’s up for sale – the ideal four-seater family-friendly classic for the height of summer, yet equally snug all year round thanks to its over-engineered roof, glass heated rear screen and heated leather seats.
