The Background

The E-Class is a well known and well established executive vehicle from the German automakers, falling mid-range in their line-up, and the 4th generation S124 that we have here is where Mercedes took the step of revising their model naming convention.

A well rounded mid-sized estate for those who wanted to dabble in a little bit of luxury without losing any of the space or reliability.

The History

The previous owner of this lovely E200 Estate is an elderly gentleman who unfortunately could not use the car as it was intended to be anymore. During his ownership of the vehicle he did have two small bumps - so it’s important to cover those first.

One in November 2019 and another in August 2020, resulting in the car becoming a Cat N insurance write off - this is extremely common practice for insurance companies to write off older vehicles due to the price depreciation and the unwillingness to repair classic vehicles. It’s not unheard of for cars this age to be written off simply for a smashed headlight!
The car was completely and professionally repaired, and has recently been put through a fresh MOT so that the new owner of this lovely estate can be put at ease knowing that there is nothing to be worried about. The only advisory that popped up on the MOT was for perished tyres which have now been replaced!

The Paperwork

This lavish estate does come with some paperwork including the V5C ready to be transfer over to the new custodian as well as some paperwork which details servicing and some repairs over the years.

The car also has a VOSA approved mileage history check so you can be assured that the mileage is genuine - although that should be easily visible given the overall condition of this vehicle!

The Interior

Taking a step inside this classic estate, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well preserved it is and how elegantly it presents itself, the seats are wrapped in a soft grey fabric front and rear, which looks to be in absolutely fantastic condition thanks to how little use it has had over the years - each owner has clearly taken very good care of the car and rightly so, what a lovely piece of classic luxury.

The drivers seat at the bottom of the right hand side rear swab has been repaired in the correct material.
The side bolsters on the seats all appear to be in great condition with no signs on any tears or rips throughout which is admirable of fabric seats, the same can be said about the rear seats too which look like they’ve just rolled out of the factory!
The dashboard is well presented with no signs of any cracks or damage, and the gauge cluster functions as it should with no unwelcome warning lights. Your eyes are drawn quickly to the centre console thanks to the beautiful wooden inlay which can also be found on the door cards, too, all of which is very well preserved and shows little to no signs of ageing!

The dials and switches located on the centre console still show their screen printed text and logos excellently, and all of the switches still function as intended. The gear selector is well presented too, smoothly able to operate between any of its functions to operate that luxuriously smooth 4-speed automatic gearbox it’s attached to.
All of the floor carpets are in wonderful condition throughout with no signs of any wear through, and still feeling plush to the touch. The same can be said about the headliner - fantastic condition from front to back with no signs of discolouration or any sagging from age - the interior of this E200 really is a sight to behold! You feel like you’re taking a step right back into the 90’s, and what a pleasure it is.

The boot space is very well kept, with very few signs of use, it’s certainly been well maintained over the years. The spare wheel is still present as is the first aid kit, and the roller blind partition is still fully functional as is demonstrated in the images with no signs of damage.

The Exterior

Finished in a lovely Moonstone Grey metallic paint job which still glistens beautifully after 25 years, this E200T really is quite the looker, it exudes class from every angle and has that beautifully admired classical Mercedes aura, with its typically 90’s boxy body style we all love so much. A very admirable looking car for it’s age.
Starting at the front, the headlights appear to be in great condition and fully functional, with no cracks or chips on the lenses that we can see. The chrome grill still has all of its shine showing proudly, with none of the usual wear you see on older cars, it really does look fantastic.

The bumper itself is almost unmarked, with only the odd stone chip here and there - but you’d really have to be looking for them to find them, it’s difficult to pick any arguments with this well preserved classic. The Mercedes emblem still sits proudly on the bonnet, too!
Around to the side of the vehicle we can see the E200 still sits on its factory wheels, which are in very nice shape with only very minor blemishes which you’d really have to be searching for. The car has also been treated to new offside front and nearside rear tyres due to the recent MOT advisories the car faced which is a nice addition to have.

The door panels all look very straight and all of the trim pieces are still intact and in nice condition throughout. The panel gaps all still look OEM too which is a lovely sight to see on a car this age, showing nobody has been incorrectly removing and replacing any panels.
To the rear of the car, everything is just as good. The rear lamps are still vivid with colour and functional, and the lenses appear to be free from any damage. The boot lid functions without any struggles and the paint still looks wonderful for its age. The rear bumper and its mouldings are all still just as good, too! Even the roof and the roof bars themselves are well kept with no real signs of use or damage to them.

The Mechanics

Mechanically, this gorgeous estate doesn’t really want for anything. It absolutely sailed through its last MOT with ease with only a small advisory for tyres which was very quickly addressed by the seller at the time.

Powered by a 2.0L 4 cylinder petrol engine (M111 E20), producing a respectable 134bhp @ 5500rpm and 190nm @ 4000rpm through its front axle, it doesn’t struggle to pull its weight around thanks to that clever and smooth 4-speed automatic transmission. Older Mercedes engines are quite well known for their reliability, there is a lot to be said about keeping things simple; and this E200T does it oh so well.

The brakes work as they should and the steering is still nice and precise, too!
As can be seen in the images, the engine bay is very well presented with very minimal signs of corrosion showing anywhere. All of the plastics are still intact with no damage and the fireproofing and sound dampening elements are still in place. It’s quite a nice sight to look at - especially for a 25 year old vehicle, one that has been truly cherished over the years!

The Appeal

It’s not all too often a clean and cared for E-Class estate pops up for sale, especially from this era. Walking around this car and having the pleasure of sitting in it really is a bit of a time warp for those able to appreciate such a well kept piece of automotive machinery.

Truly a bargain to be had here - don’t miss out on this gorgeous estate ready for more motoring adventures!
