1996 Jaguar XJ6 (X300)

Highlights

  • A rare example of the X300 XJ given its mileage and low ownership history
  • Presenting in a very good condition throughout in a popular colourway
  • Complete with a good, documented service history
  • Fresh MOT and service prior to sale

The Appeal

The X300 Jaguar saloon debuted in 1994 and became the first Jaguar to be developed whilst the company was fully a subsidiary of Ford following it taking a majority shareholding in 1989. Ford’s priority was to retain the outgoing XJ40’s traditional appeal whilst dramatically improving the rather patchy build quality of its predecessor. Key to this aim was the introduction of cutting-edge robotised welding technology, ironically supplied by Nissan. The result was a highly successful luxury saloon with a vastly improved quality record.

This example is an entirely original example with a low ownership and low mileage history. The average period of tenure equates to almost 7 years with mileage being accrued at a mere 1,600 miles, or so, annually. This makes this X300 Jaguar quite unusual amongst its peers and all the more desirable for it.

Summary

The X300 prioritised steadying the Jaguar ship following some stormy waters created by the poor-quality record of its predecessor. £200M invested in a state-of-the-art production facility helped to produce a car that was streets ahead of its predecessor in that regard. Whilst supply of XJ6 models of this vintage are plentiful, low mileage, low owner cars always command a premium.

This example stands out courtesy of its history. A mere four owners to date and an incredibly low mileage combine to set this car apart. This light and sympathetic usage seems to have benefitted the condition of the Jaguar, too. The car presents in a highly original order with exterior and, especially, interior looking very fresh overall. This represents a great opportunity to own a luxury British saloon for a modest outlay so don’t miss out.
