Background
Riddled with Italian DNA, the name Ducati resonates throughout the two-wheel automotive world, both on and off track.
The company began life in 1926 as a manufacturer of radio and electronic equipment in Italy (“not many people know that” - Sir Michael Caine). In 1949, the firm produced its first motorcycle – the Ducati 60.
Now a member of the Audi Group, Ducati has over the decades produced a range of powerful, high-quality motorcycles with innovative designs and modern technology, derived largely from its successful racing heritage.

One such motorbike that left its mark on the world was the Ducati 750 SS. Manufactured from 1991 to 2002, the 750 Super Sport (SS) evolved from being a saviour on the track to a street-legal road warrior.
The original Ducati 750 SS made its debut in 1990 with a 748cc 90-degree V-twin air-cooled engine, mated to a five-speed chain final drive manual transmission with a power output of 66 bhp delivering 72 Nm of torque. The frame was a steel trellis-style with a 40mm Marocchi upside-down telescopic fork. The rear suspension featured an adjustable Showa mono-shock.
The bike was equipped with front and rear disc brakes with grippy Brembo calipers, a dual seat with passenger grab handle, a full fairing and small windshield sheltering analogue instrumentation dials.
The wheels were made of cast aluminum affording the bike a lightness that provided agile yet powerful riding characteristics marking the bike out as being suitable for the track or the road.

The History
This low-mileage Ducati 750 SS received its first UK registration in May, 1998. It has been enjoyed by no less than six former keepers prior to being acquired by the current owner, a resident of the Isle of Wight, in July, 2018. The bike is currently SORNed.
Its MoT expired in October, 2020 which it passed, as it did the two previous tests. However, there are no online records of the bike having undergone an MoT between 2006 and 2019. It is believed that the bike resided out of the UK during most of those intervening years.
Of particular interest is the mileage (in kilometres) of 16,712 recorded at its 2005 MoT. Currently, the odometer reads 17,100, meaning the bike has been ridden just 388 kilometres in the past 17 years.
The Paperwork
Accompanying the sale will be the V5C and a small folder of past paperwork which details spares acquired and maintenance undertaken in recent years.
Condition
In P577 POT, we have a fine low-mileage example of one of the best and more popular Ducati’s ever made. Its condition – while somewhat short of concourse – remains exceptional throughout for its 24 years.
It is presented in the original, gleaming ‘Ducati Rosso’ paint colour, with contrasting white and gold-trimmed lettering elsewhere on the bike. It sports dual Remus ‘Grand Prix’ exhausts.
The Mechanics
At the time of taking the accompanying photographs, our agent was not treated to the joy hearing the bike fire up, but was assured by the owner that the bike runs just as the Ducati engineers intended.
Supporting paperwork details almost £1,500 worth of parts and labour invested in the machine by the current keeper in October 2019, preparing the bike for re-use once again.
The Appeal
At classic motorcycle rallies up and down the UK, there will usually be at least one Ducati 750 SS and certainly several other models from the ‘SuperSport’ series…and there are many good reasons for that.
Inspired by a line of Taglioni-designed bikes with an impressive history, the Ducati 750 SS evolved from the first Taglioni sport-bikes in the 1970s and enjoyed a few re-emergence periods until finally hitting hard in the early 1990s through to 2001.
Consumer demand for more powerful bikes compelled Ducati to turn its sights elsewhere (yes, 900 SS, we’re looking at you). Overall, the 750 SS enjoyed a good run and measurable sales success.
Offered here is the opportunity to acquire a bike with many more years of riding pleasure left in it…a tidy, well looked after 750 SS worthy of the ‘SuperSport’ heritage.
G’won…because you’re here, pop on a cheeky bid. You know you want to!
