THE APPEAL
The Nissan Skyline GTR has long come to symbolise the ultimate iteration of the Japanese supercar. Its legendary status even earned it the Godzilla nickname. Launched in 1995, the fourth generation R33 achieved hero status as the first production car to lap the Nurburgring in under eight minutes. The example offered for sale here on Car and Classic is a first year production run GTR V-Spec, which celebrates the Japanese firms victories on the race track.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
• V5C in owners name
• MOT until 14th April 2023
• Invoice for engine rebuild in 2015
• Invoice for new alloys and tyres fitted in March 2022
This particular GTR V-Spec was first registered in January 1995 and was imported to the UK in 2011. It has been with the current owner and seller since, who states he has kept the car largely standard.
In 2015 the owner treated the GTR to an engine rebuild, which was carried out by RB Motorsport at a cost of £5,858.56. A breakdown of the work carried out is detailed in the history file.
More recently the owner had a set of 18” Bola B1 silver alloys and new Davanti DX640 tyres fitted at a cost of £1,150, which is noted in the history file.
The owner states that a Thatcham category 1 alarm with anti hijack is installed and the car comes with 2 genuine GTR keys and 2 alarm fobs.
THE INTERIOR
• Alcantara Interior
• Momo Corsa Steering Wheel
• Skyline Overmats fitted
On the inside the Skyline benefits from a stylish Alcantara interior, which adds a touch of sophistication to the Godzilla monster. The seats in this example appear to have worn well with some signs of use on the drivers seat base edge and bolster. Which is to be expected after covering 88,600 miles.
A set of genuine Skyline over matts are installed in the car and the carpet underneath looks very clean in the photos.
The sporting credentials of the GTR are further emphasised by the Mono Corsa steering wheel and the Nismo gearshift ball.
The owner states that a JVC KD-X441DBT Bluetooth Stereo is installed along with JVC CS-J260 300W speakers. He adds that the air-conditioning and other gauges and switches all work well.
THE EXTERIOR
It is hard to miss any Nissan Skyline GTR when you see and hear one on the open road and this example with its Midnight Purple paint is certainly a head turner. It is actually refreshing to see one in a darker colour and it is set off rather nicely by the recently fitted Bola silver alloys.
The owner does note that there are some minor scratches, scuffs, dents and chips to the paint. The front valence has been resprayed after some kerb damage.
He also adds that the rear passenger quarter panel may have had damage, as there is evidence of a respray. This occurred before he acquired vehicle. An after market fibre glass spatt fitted was also fitted.
THE MECHANICS
• Engine rebuild in 2015
• Fully adjustable suspension
• New battery
• New battery
One of the delights of the Skyline is its 2.6 litre twin turbocharged six cylinder engine, which officially produced 276BHP. This GTR V-Spec benefited from an engine rebuild in 2015 and the seller states that it has great performance. The engine is largely standard, with the exception of an upgraded air induction filter.
The GTR sits on a fully adjustable BR suspension, with ride height, stiffness and damping adjustments available.
It also sports drilled and grooved disc brakes, with red stuff brake pads fitted on the front and rear.
The space saver wheel has full tread and the jack is present jack. However there is no tool kit or jack handle.
The owner states that the car also has had a new battery and catalytic convertor installed. The auxiliary belts are also new, along with a new drive shaft boot and 2 reconditioned lambda sensors. The GTR also has a reconditioned starter motor.
The owner adds that the steering advisory noted in the MOT advisory has been fixed, with the other advisories still outstanding.
The car appears to be largely rust free, with the exception of the jacking points which have been damaged in the past and do have rust present.
SUMMARY
Just like the mega beast that was immortalised in print and on the big screen, the Nissan Skyline GTR continues to hold a special place in the hearts of fans around the world. Just saying the words Skyline and GTR in the same sentence immediately conveys an image of power and technological sophistication. As the latest generation GTR continues to cement its claim at the very top, demand for the earlier generations continues to rise. With an engine rebuild and numerous maintenance items already taken care of, this Skyline GTR V-Spec is ready to start a new journey with a new custodian.
