1995 Ducati 916 Senna 1

Highlights

  • Incredibly rare Ducati, as one of just 300 Senna 1 units produced
  • Regarded as one of the finest Superbikes ever designed
  • Presents incredible collection potential, and will forever remain desirable
  • Offers superb performance, and fantastic mechanical health

The Appeal

In its standard form alone, the Ducati 916 is without a doubt one of the greatest superbikes yet to grace the roads. The bike’s bold Italian styling, impressive performance, streamlined profile, and upgraded tech set it aside as one of the most influential superbikes of its era. Naturally, the 916 is incredibly collectable across any form, yet the desirable Senna variants garner the most attention.

Produced to honour the legendary champion and enthusiast, Ayrton Senna, Ducati would produce a total of three Senna edition 916 models, in 1995, 1998 and 2001 respectively. This particular Senna does of course belong to the more desirable, first-generation editions, released in 1995, aptly known as the Senna 1.
As just 300 Senna 1 units were produced, this no.282 example remains incredibly rare and presents a seldom-seen opportunity for enthusiasts, and collectors. This 916 has covered just 7,621 miles throughout its lifetime, boasts just one UK keeper, and offers a very impressive original finish, with excellent mechanical health to suit.

If you’re in the market for a truly collectable Ducati, very few can touch this superb no.282 916 Senna 1.

The History and Paperwork

  • Incredibly rare, as no.282 of 300 units produced
  • Imported to the UK and registered in September 2000
  • Cherished as part of a collection, seeing minimal road use
  • Presented with just 7,621 miles on the clock
  • Includes a few Ducati invoices and the current V5C document
  • Comes with the original toolkit, and a Coprimoto dust cover
This magnificent 916 boasts just one recorded UK owner and has since been cherished as part of a high-end collection throughout its time in the country. As such, the bike is presented today with a mere 7,621 miles on the clock, and a condition very much befitting the low mileage and excellent care.
As the bike has seemingly required very little over the years, paperwork and history for the vehicle is somewhat minimal, although a welcome selection is still present. Included alongside the bike, are a few invoices from Ducati Oxford for servicing and maintenance, along with the current V5C document, the original toolkit, and a Coprimoto dust cover.

The Exterior

  • Proudly displays the original metallic grey paintwork, with vibrant red accents, and Senna decals
  • Offers a very impressive finish across the bike, with only light signs of use to show
  • Stands as one of the most handsome superbikes ever put into production, ensuring a very worthy candidate for the finest of collections
Designed by legendary Italian designer Massimo Tamburini, the 916 offers a superbly sporty aesthetic, with a streamlined profile and sharp edges, alluding to the awesome performance on offer. Even to this day, it remains one of the most highly regarded superbike designs of all time and would continue to inspire later Ducati models for years to come.
This particular example is a fantastic showcase of Tamburini's design, and the Senna 1 specific styling package, with metallic grey paintwork, a bronze frame and vibrant red accents. Believed to be the original finish, the fairings, frame and wheels boast a very impressive overall condition, with only the pictured instances of light blemishes and ageing to show. These blemishes appear to only be noticeable upon close inspection and hardly detract from a simply gorgeous design.

The Mechanics

  • Powered by a 916cc water-cooled V-twin
  • Features an incredible specification from the factory, equipped with the likes of:
    • A single-sided swingarm design
    • Ohlins suspension, with Showa forks
    • Brembo disk brakes front and rear
    • Central under-seat Termignoni exhausts
  • Runs and performs brilliantly, with no known faults to note
  • Fitted with a new battery, new belts, air filters, and fork seals in 2020
Powered by a revised version of the V-twin present in the 888, the 916 packs a fantastic power-to-weight ratio, offering an impressive powerband, and a truly wicked soundtrack alongside. Regarded as one of the finer superbikes money can buy, this is certainly a bike worthy of both the Ducati and Senna names.
Buyers will be pleased to know that this example lives up to the 916’s legendary reputation, firing up right away, and offering fault-free performance throughout the rev range. The bike’s excellent mechanical health can of course be attributed to Ducati’s superb build quality and engineering, as well as minimal mileage, and excellent care. Evidence of such can be found within the included paperwork, which notes the likes of a new battery, new air filters, new fork seals, fluids and belts in 2020.

Summary

The 916 Senna continually receives praise, years after its launch, and rightfully so. Ducati has blessed enthusiasts with gorgeous Italian styling, awe-inspiring performance, legendary build quality, excellent collection potential, and a very worthy commemoration of a motoring legend.

If you’re in the market for a rare collection piece that had an incredible impact on the world of superbikes, this 1995 Ducati 916 Senna 1 should be at the top of your list.
