The Appeal
Many enthusiasts will tell you that the E34 was the 5-series' peak - quietly purposeful, elegantly executive-style angles - but if that's the peak, the M-Car variant exceeded just about every expectation. Powered by the well-respected S38 straight-six, the was assembled by hand in Bavaria, built up around a painted factory body shell - and it felt it. Something about this iteration of the M5 felt pored over and hand-stitched. Real, tactile, tangible quality in every panel. Needless to say, a good example gets plenty of attention from modern enthusiasts.
This example is a rare, 3.8 6-speed manual, with a sunroof and full leather, from the final year of production. It has had plenty of attention while in its current ownership and comes complete with a full-service record book. It's recently been treated to a new fuel tank and exhaust and boasts Bilstein shock absorbers all-round. A solid, nicely-kept example that'd be easy to bring up to top-notch condition, or a particularly versatile, high-octane daily driver - the E34 M5 fits comfortably into both worlds.
