The Appeal
There’s something timelessly stylish about a classic Range Rover. It’s one of those designs which never really goes out of fashion and we’ll probably continue to see them on the road for many more decades to come.
This particular Range Rover has been treated to a 4.6-litre engine, fitted by Overfinch, and a host of more recent performance upgrades. It has been resprayed and treated to protective wax treatments to preserve its good condition. The underside looks very clean, and it has received a new coil spring suspension setup.
So if it’s a bit of nostalgic ‘90s luxury you’re after, this Range Rover may just be the perfect high performance answer.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in December 1994
- MOT valid until February 2024
- No MOT advisories
- Invoice from Overfinch Ltd. for £5,710 worth of upgrades, dated 2001
- £2,000 invoice from Ashcroft Transmissions in December 2022
The Interior
- Excellent grey leather interior
- Tasteful burr walnut veneers
- Carpets and headlining very clean and tidy
As soon as you open the door to this Range Rover you are immediately struck by how luxurious it feels. It’s easy to see how so many people were won over by the revolutionary new concept of mixing comfort with off-road capability when the Range Rover was introduced.
This particular Range Rover’s leather upholstery appears to be very well preserved, with few signs of use and only light creasing on the driver’s seat. The grey hides look smart and clean, and the seats are well cushioned and supportive.
Grey carpets match the seats and are in good clean condition, they are also protected by fitted stout rubber overmats. Even the door cards are free from scuffs and damage, and look very presentable. The vendor tells us that the headlining is new
The dashboard features beautiful walnut veneer, which continues onto the steering wheel, doors and the centre console. It retains a deep shine to its lacquer and the grain is beautifully figured. The instruments are bold and clear, and the buttons and switches have a tactile chunkiness to them.
The Exterior
- Chassis, wheel arches and cavities wax treated
- LED headlamps and fog lights
- Resprayed paintwork
With its now instantly recognisable styling, the classic Range Rover has developed something of a cult following over the decades, it’s certainly now got that retro appeal.
The resprayed dark metallic paint is in very good condition, with hardly a blemish we could find. It retains a good shine and glistens in the light. The dark grey shade suits the car very well and gives it an assertive appearance.
The vendor tells us that the car has received wax protection treatment, with the A, B and C pillars being treated, as well as the chassis and wheel arches. We’re told that there is no corrosion to be found on the underside of the car, and from what we could see it certainly looks extremely clean underneath.
All the trim appears to be present and correct, and the car wears discreet Overfinch badges on the tailgate. The headlamps and fog lights have been replaced with LED units, and the front grille is new. The car is running on a set of alloy wheels which are in very good condition, and are shod with matching Uniroyal tyres.
The Mechanics
- Overfinch 460i engine
- Newly upgraded Ashcroft Grade 1 transmission and transfer box
- Recently serviced
- The Vendor informs us that the engine has 46k miles less then is on the clock
The accompanying documentation includes significant invoices from Overfinch, detailing the fitment of an ‘Overfinch 460i specification performance engine package, inc. optimised ECU chip’, which was carried out in 2001.
More recently, in December 2022, Ashcroft Transmissions supplied a rebuilt ZF automatic transmission, stage 1 upgrade, and transfer box. The vendor also tells us that the car benefits from new upgraded anti roll bars, a full polybush kit, and a new exhaust system including catalytic converters.
The suspension has been replaced with coil springs, but the seller will include the air suspension bags in the sale, with the front ones being in new condition. This system was reportedly all in working condition when removed.
We understand that the car has recently had various service items seen to, including: the differential oils, spark plugs, engine oil, high flow water pump, drive belts, new radiator, brake discs and pads and fuel pump.
Summary
A beautifully presented example of this high performance luxury off-roader. Ideally suited to both the countryside or the urban jungle.
