The Appeal

Introduced to capitalise on the overwhelming popularity of the original MGB - and to have a hand at fighting off the new Mazda MX-5 - the MG RV8 was more or less cut from the same cloth - modernised for the discerning driver who wanted a taste of the great British roadster. The resulting car was undeniably a triumph, and has since become a classic in its own right.

The British Motor Heritage manufactured bodyshell was painted at Rover's Cowley plant, then went for a trip Cowley where the cars were hand-built - with a very well-to-do Connelly leather cabin, laden in walnut veneers. The vast majority of the 1,983 built went to Japan, with only 483 UK examples, split between set colourways.

This fine example comes to us in the very desirable British Racing Green, something it shared with only 139 of its build-mates. It's been transformed in the intermingling years, including the installation of a charismatic 3-litre TVR V8 under the bonnet. Cherished since 2014 and kept in a dry garage, the car has predominantly been driven to local shows, and has spent the rest of its time being cosseted. Needless to say, it offers a great opportunity to the lucky enthusiast!

The Condition

• British Racing Green paintwork in good condition
• No major dents or scratches
• Some light areas of chipping, particularly to the sills and bumpers
• There is also some rust on the lower window frame which will need attention
• MG multi-spoke alloys with Good Year tyres in good condition for age
• Black convertible hood is fine order with no rips or tears
• The soft-top's rear plastic screen is in good order
• Highly original cream leather cabin with burr walnut fascias
• Age-commensurate wear to the upholstery
• This is largely isolated to standard creasing and sag 
• Jenson stereo with iPod connection; all switches and instruments work

The Mechanics

• 3.9 Litre TVR V8 engine built by TVR Power, fitted by the previous keeper
• 5-speed manual transmission
• Engine bay looks in fine order 
• Recently fitted with a new high-power starter motor
• TVR Chimera clutch
• Koni upgraded rear shocks, full stainless steel exhaust system
• EZ electric power steering, previously had a new column and ECU
• New radiator fitted in 2017
• Some surface rust on the petrol tank
• The vendor notes that the car starts quickly and runs okay but could use a tune-up due to infrequent use
