The Appeal
“Like something that belongs on the set of Miami Vice, bathed in neon light by the beach at night. It’s cool, relaxed and ever so charismatic you don’t really want to stop cruising around.” – Jake Groves, writing in CAR, 2024
Hailing from Mercedes-Benz’s golden era for design and build quality, the W124 is some of the late, great Bruno Sacco’s finest work. Besides the legendarily capable saloon, coupé and estate, a full four-seater convertible variant was offered as an accompaniment to the R129 SL. Just 789 were sold to the UK in right-hand drive. Known internally as the A124, it’s one of these rare convertibles we’re delighted to offer here.
This E220 is the even more seldom-seen, highly specified ‘Sportline’ model, featuring a unique body kit, 10mm lower ride height, stiffer springs, upgraded anti-roll bars with higher-grade bushings besides a range of interior enhancements.
This very original example is resplendent in red and sits upon its factory ‘Sportline’ eight-hole alloy wheels. It presents beautifully throughout and has a current advisory-free MOT until September 2025.
