1994 Jaguar XJS V12

Highlights

  • Excellently original
  • Super low mileage example
  • Desirable 6.0 V12 engine configuration

The Appeal

British luxury defined - with one of the best engine configurations offered in the XJS. There is something almost mythical about a V12 powered sports or GT car, it’s a rare sight to see, even better to hear! The ownership of a V12 is many a petrolheads dream however usually comes at an eye-watering steep price, however the XJS is not only an affordable option, but one that many would consider an absolute steal, you can’t get much more car than this with your money.
This particular example is presented in stunning original condition with exceptionally low mileage for its age, and presents a rather good opportunity to own one of the lowest mileage XJS still kicking around. A bucket list item which can be easily checked off, perhaps.

The History and Paperwork

  •  Vehicle was procured in the UK from H R Owen; vehicle exported to Japan by the first UK owner who relocated there for work; it was repatriated to the UK in 2018
  • First registered on the 1st of June 1994
  • JEVIC Certificate of Verification after import, verifying the vehicles odometer reading
  • First registered for UK roads  on the 1st of March 2019
  • Good MOT history since coming to the UK, advisories for rear wheel bearings but these have since been sorted
  • MOT valid until the 24th of May 2024
  • V5C is present and in the current keepers name ready for transfer
  • Rich paperwork history from its time in the UK including invoices from mechanical work
  • Original Jaguar booklets present

The Interior

  • Cream leather upholstery is presented in gorgeous condition with only very gentle signs of use on the bolsters and lower cushions, there appears to be no signs of any damage or tears. The drivers side bolster does have a little heavier wear than the rest of the seat, and looks as though it could be brought back to 90% with some leather dye
  • Rear seats are in excellent condition - they almost look unused
  • Original carpets remain thick and plush, no signs of any unwelcome damage. The present mats could just use a deep clean to bring them back to life
  • Headlining well presented with seemingly no sagging or damage present
  • Jaguar sill kick plates present and appear in well maintained condition, the jaguar logo in the driver side plate is lifting slightly
  • Dash gauges all function properly with no warning lights presenting themselves after start-up
  • Wooden veneer dash panelling all appears to be very well kept with no visible signs of delamination, the same goes for the trim piece in the centre console and the door cards
  • Original tape deck present and functional, all surrounding controls on the centre console remain functional and are easy to read
  • Door cards remain in great shape and brightwork is excellent, the electric seat functions still work as expected
  • Air Conditioner needs regassing
  • Boot compartment is well kept, the original carpets are nicely maintained and the spare wheel is present under its cover, and includes a fully stocked toolkit with spare bulbs

The Exterior

  • Kingfisher Blue Metallic paintwork which presents itself in very nicely maintained condition throughout with only very gentle blemishes in the form of small stone chips
  • Body panels all appear to be straight, and panel gaps all appear to be of factory fitment
  • Brightwork throughout appears to be in excellent condition retaining a high level of shine front to back
  • A couple of very gentle scratch marks on the lower right side of the back bumper (we’re being super picky here)
  • Headlight and tail light lenses are of excellent quality with no signs of damage or water ingress
  • Original Jaguar alloys which are all presented in lovely condition with no visible markings or damage, and all are shod in good rubber with plenty of tread
  • Front and rear arches all appear to be free from any corrosion
  • Pinstriping along both sides of the vehicle is present and looks fantastic, accentuating the vehicles long body lines
  • Front four piston callipers are bright and free off corrosion
  • Original XJS rear spoiler presented nicely, finishing off the sleek look of this handsome big cat

The Mechanics

  • Desirable 6.0L V12 engine
  • 4-Speed GM 4L80 automatic transmission
  • Rear-wheel drive configuration
  • 305 bhp at 5,350 rpm, and 481 Nm of torque at 2,850 rpm
  • Excellent reported mechanical health, backed up by the clean MOT history since it was imported to the UK
  • In June 2020, the vehicle had the engine cam cover gaskets replaced and the A/C pressure switch replaced costing £1,377.67 at Reading Independent Jags & Classics
  • September of 2020 saw much more mechanical work being undertaken with two pages of parts from Powerbell Services - worth taking a look at this!
  • Recent MOT shows that both rear wheel bearings had slight play however this was rectified by MAC Motorsport on the 26th of April 2023, along with a new battery, front pads, OSF brake caliper, steering bush kit, full service, spark plugs and a 3D wheel alignment coming to a £2,233.59 bill
  • Engine, steering, gearbox and braking are all reported to be in fantastic health, filling any driver with confidence in all aspects and producing no unwelcome or worrying noises of clunks during use

Summary

As stated, any V12 XJS is an excellent entry in to V12 ownership, however one of this condition is worthy of a collection piece. As the story goes with many old Jags, they aren’t easy to come by in a healthy state - and even harder to come by with as little mileage as this one. Thanks to the vehicle's history in Japan you can rest assured that this is among one of the cleanest originals you’ll be able to get your hands on!
