The appeal
Jaguar's refreshed XJS was launched in 1991 and, while it lost the hyphen from its predecessor's name, it gained some styling tweaks inside and out as well as modernised running gear.
This example, while it requires a little TLC to bring it back to its best, is one half of John Prescott's infamous 'two-Jags' collection and would make a perfect winter project for someone looking to preserve a piece of British cultural history.

The history and paperwork

The interior
- Biscuit leather interior trim
- Walnut dashboard
- CD player and radio
- Electric seats and windows
- Electric windows and mirrors
- Height adjustable seats
The interior of this car is in moderate condition. The door cards, headlining and carpets with exception of the floor matts are looking well for their age. Unfortunately the front seats and arm rest have seen a fair amount of usage with notable damage to the drivers side bolster and front cushion. The trim and dashboard are both looking well.
It is reported that the Climate control and AC does not work but as far as we are aware everything else is functioning correctly.
the exterior
- Kingfisher Blue
- Model badges present
- Brightwork and trim is in presentable condition
- Iconic pinstriping
- Paint and bodywork victim to parking damage
- Glass and seals are good
The Kingfisher Blue that this XJS is finished in is nothing short of breathtaking. Under different light conditions you get a mix of Green and Blue hues which look fantastic against the brightwork that is placed around the car.
Unfortunately there are signs of age which is notable around the vehicle. There is damage to the rear bumper, the nearside rear quarter, nearside front wing and nearside mirror, as well as the offside front headlight and bumper. The alloy wheels would also benefit from a refurbishment.
Overall, though, with a bit of tidying, this could be very presentable.

The mechanics
- Highly regarded 4.0 AJ16 straight-six engine
- Automatic transmission
- Suspension needs an overhaul
- Runs and idles well
Mechanically speaking, although the car reportedly runs and idles well, the car does need some work to ensure that it is working as it should do.
We are informed by the vendor that the car is in-need of a new heater matrix, climate control/AC unit, and a new radiator. The brakes and handbrake also require attention. A comprehensive list of defects can be found listed on the cars last MOT.
Summary
A well-specified XJS with a famous previous owner that is in need of some love to bring it back to its former glory. An ideal candidate for anyone who is looking for a project over winter, its entry into British political dialogue demands that it be preserved!
