Highlights
- A huge history file full of invoices
- Top of the range model
- Spacious interior in fantastic condition
The Appeal
At its launch in 1991, the Continental R was the most expensive car money could buy, so this tells you a lot about the kind of car you’re looking at here. At the time, Rolls-Royce – who owned Bentley – were still coy about publishing official performance figures, instead preferring to simply inform their customers that the car's performance was ‘adequate’. However, we can tell you that the 6.75 litre twin turbo V8 engine was able to produce 325hp.
This car is an example of a fastidiously maintained automobile. Its history file is bulging with invoices detailing thousands of pounds worth of expenditure. There are 26 stamps in the service book, showing that the car has been well looked after by main Bentley dealers and independent specialists.

The Interior
- Cream leather seats and headlining in excellent condition
- Well appointed walnut dashboard
- Thick lambswool carpets in footwells and boot
The interior of any Bentley is a sublime place to be, especially if you happen to be sitting in the world’s most expensive car at the time. Cream leather and polished burr walnut abound, and this car features many conveniences which were far ahead of their time.
The dashboard is populated with an impressive number of analogue gauges, some of which are unusual to see such as the oil level gauge and, our particular favourite, the outside temperature gauge. The highly polished walnut veneer appears to be in excellent condition and the chrome switches add a touch of elegance.
As you would expect in a car of this quality, the wonderfully tactile fixtures and fittings are all in excellent condition. The only issues reported by the vendor are that the passenger seat heater no longer functions and the cruise control requires servicing. The voluminous luggage compartment is clean and tidy and lined in luxurious lambswool.
But we think you will barely notice these issues as you recline into your plush leather seat and bury your feet in the thick woollen carpets.
The Exterior
- Sherwood Green paint work in excellent condition
- Excellent wheels, new rear tyres
- Recently Waxoyled underneath
The Continental R’s two door coupé has fantastic lines, with its imposingly long bonnet capped with the famous winged B emblem in front of a 2+2 cabin and a huge luggage compartment, making it the perfect car for a transcontinental tour.
Finished in Sherwood Green, the paint work on this Bentley Continental is described by the vendor as ‘excellent’ and we’re inclined to agree, there are only a couple of blemishes that we could see.
Underneath, the car has recently been treated with Waxoyl, which should provide years of protection from the elements. The alloy wheels and Avon tyres are described as excellent, with the rear rubber having been replaced recently.
The Mechanics
- Excellent full service history
- Major suspension overhaul and upgrade
- Bespoke stainless steel exhaust
- New front brake discs and pads
Leafing through the extensive service history that accompanies this Bentley Continental, you cannot fail to appreciate just how well this car has been cared for. There are numerous high value invoices for work carried out in recent years, including a full suspension overhaul and fitting Bilstein shock absorbers. The car is set to handle and perform superbly, and has had new brake discs and pads fitted it stops equally well. The Vendor informs that the cruise control is no longer working and neither is the driver's heated seat.
The vendor states that a new full stainless steel exhaust has been fitted with the correct catalytic converters. A new power steering rack has also been fitted as well as major suspension upgrades to bilstein at a cost of £9147.56, Invoice is pictured below. A service was carried out in October 2021, during which a new crankshaft sensor was fitted as well as a few new hoses.
The accompanying photographs show many of the invoices for the above work, from which you can be confident that this car has been well maintained throughout his entire life. It will certainly give the next owner peace of mind in order to drive the car confidently and enthusiastically, as any Bentley should be.
Summary
This Bentley was at the pinnacle of the automotive pecking order when it rolled off the production line in 1994, and it remains an absolutely fantastic luxury grand tourer to this day. It has clearly been well looked after and cared for by Bentley mechanics and specialists, with an extensive history file to accompany it.
There can be few cars from the 1990s which remain as elegant, powerful and luxurious as this Bentley Continental R.
