The Appeal
This fine Brooklands is in excellent mechanical condition, ready to drive. With the usual swathes of fine, hand crafted materials inside and out, this is still, even by todays standards, an example of true luxury and quality. Of course, it is not just the interior that benefits from the touch of Bentley’s skilled team. The way this car runs and drives is second to none with barely a sound inside the cabin coming from the silky smooth V8 engine and a cloud like ride, which on today’s roads is most welcome. Backed by a long history and stash of paperwork supporting a large sum spent over the last few years keeping this vehicle in top order mechanically, this example, although still in need of some TLC, could be brought back to its former glory with relative ease.
The History and Paperwork
- This Brooklands was first registered overseas in 1994, and was imported and first registered in the UK in February 1999. It has been in the current keepers possession for the past 18 months and has been used regularly.
- Lots of paperwork present, including extensive receipts for maintenance, previous V5s, tax discs and MOT certificates dating back well over a decade, this includes some costly items giving peace of mind to the new keeper
- The service book contains a lot of stamps, and includes a note indicating that the book was replaced in 2000. It is also apparent that there is a gap in the service history between 2001 and 2010, however the vehicle has been well cared for mechanically.
- Clearly great care has been taken to preserve this car’s history and maintain it.
The Interior
- The interior of this Brooklands is finished in cream leather with blue piping, wood trim, and plush blue carpets and floor mats all made of the finest materials.
- Overall the interior is in working condition, with some defects including a damaged radio screen, cracked or split trim parts, and also one of the rear footrests is missing though from what we saw, the majority of the electronic components worked as intended
- It would take little to make this very clean inside and a very pleasant car to enjoy driving or being driven in with the main features and aspects of the car being in good, solid order and simply in need of a little light restoration and some isolated replacement parts
- A very luxurious space, the vast interior was the pinnacle of luxury and comfort in its day with a premium sound system, rear off rests and unbelievably thick carpets.
The Exterior
- Finished in a lovely dark blue, dripping with chrome trims and with a very bold and imposing look, this luxurious Bentley is sure to turn heads.
- The exterior, much like the interior, is functional, but in need of some TLC. It appears to have some significant corrosion around body panel edges, and could do with these issues being corrected to prevent further and more serious issues.
- It features the original Bentley wheels which have been hand painted at some point during the vehicle’s life, these are shod with matching Avon Turbosteel tyres on all four corners.
- The electric radio aerial functions correctly and all doors open and close with that satisfying, solid sound so familiar with these vehicles, alluding to the quality and durability of Bentleys.
- This vehicle's extensive brightwork is in good condition throughout, along with the Bentley bonnet emblem. Glass also appears to be clear and without any major blemishes and also original from what we could tell.
The Mechanics
- Starts, stops and drives exactly as it should with the engine starting absolutely on the button and no noises or rattles to note
- Mechanically this car wants for very little as it has been serviced regularly and is in fine shape especially around the engine bay there and no signs of leaks or corrosion of note that we saw, and is generally untouched and original throughout
- One thing of note is that there is an Airbag warning light displayed on the dashboard and would need addressed to pass an MOT so is likely a recent fault
- A thorough service was carried out very recently by a Rolls Royce Specialist, and has had an underbody protection spray applied. Generally the underside is very solid looking, with major components looking solid and surprisingly clean.
- Very little would be needed to take this car to the next level although a quality detail would go a long way, bringing the furnishings and exterior paint to a high standard
Summary
Overall a solid Bentley Brooklands which could benefit from some aesthetic love but is a very good, solid mechanical platform for restoration. Low miles, loads of history and documentation, almost complete! The perfect vehicle for someone wanting absolute and outright luxury on a relative budget. A very attractive vehicle bursting with luxury and comfort.
