The Appeal
Through the long history of the Range Rover, the factory and various high end tuners have sought to improve it. But perhaps none have quite achieved what we have here: a very high end, very tasteful restored Classic.
To describe it as upgraded or restored doesn’t quite do it justice. When we tell you that the attention to detail extends to over mats fashioned from Harris Tweed and bespoke Zebra wood veneers, you may begin to get a sense of this car’s quality and uniqueness.
The work was commissioned at huge expense by a high-end car enthusiast in 2013 and covered the bodywork - it has been repainted in dark green with a Brooklands body kit - as well as the retrimmed interior. Under the bonnet lies a John Eales-built 4.6litre 252bhp engine and specialist-refurbished gearbox. He was the chap who helped Land Rover develop the 4.3litre V8 that originally powered it.
It has been sparingly used since, which explains the excellent condition. Well-known to the vendor, this car comes with a thick history file and long, advisory-free MOT to August 2024.
The Classic is a doyen of collectors and this one is the most remarkable and best presented we have seen in a long time.

A bullet point description of this Classic does not remotely do justice to the transformation wrought on it in 2013 when it was restored. For this we have to inspect the photographs, which reveal a car that has been upgraded and enhanced, but with a firm eye on tastefulness.
The quality is evident in the hides used to trim the seats, the Zebra wood veneers and Harris Tweed mats. Outside the paintwork is in similarly excellent order, all reflecting the vehicle’s very sparing use since completion.
This certainly is a one-off Classic, but one that fits neatly into the tradition of stately restraint for which these cars are so revered.

John Eales is well known in Range Rover circles for his role in developing the ‘official’ factory-built 4.3litre V8. He created the 4.6litre engine in this Classic, tuning it at the then-owner’s request to deliver mid range punch rather than out and out power. The gearbox was rebuilt alongside this work so that the two units suite neatly together. The results are displayed on a dyno print out provided with the vehicle which shows 252bhp and 292lf/ft torque at the wheels.
But this is not just a Range Rover with a chunkier engine. The drivetrain, brakes and suspension have been enhanced to match the upgrades and there is a stainless steel exhaust with free flow manifold too.
The work was completed in 2013 and this Range Rover has covered just 9,054 miles since. A thick history folder accompanying it attests to the expense of the work and the extent of the maintenance. It comes to market in excellent order with no reported issues and said to be running well with smooth drivetrain. The vendor should know - he has sold this remarkable Classic to its four previous owners.
