THE APPEAL

Like it’s 205 GTi sibling, the Pininfarina-penned CTi is every bit as fun to drive with the same high performance and legendary handling capabilities and with the added benefit of open-air classic motoring.
Declared “car of the decade” by Car Magazine in 1990, The 205 has always been recognised as one of the best ‘superminis’ of the ’80’s and was an engineering masterstroke by Peugeot.
The GTi was, of course, an extremely successful World Rally car in Turbo form and sporty variants such as the ‘Rallye’ (in the U.K.) also offered exceptional fun.
This very low mileage phase two CTi benefits from the edgy and torquey 1.9-litre petrol engine and sports the beefier front and rear bumper valences and wheel arches. The body, paintwork and interior all look very original and presentable.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  •  Original handbooks and maintenance booklet
  •  Service book - stamps from August 1993 - July 1999
  •  Last oil and filter service on the 9th May 2022

  •  Most recent ‘Pass’ MOT runs until the 10th April 2023
  •  Minor MOT advisories have been attended to
  •  Tax status is Sorn
  •  2 sets of keys
The accompanying service book reveals that this 205 was first serviced by Warwick Wright Motors in Brent Cross and soon after resided in the Salisbury area until 1996 when it moved to Southampton and was subsequently looked after by Peugeot specialists Hamble Motors.
The previous owner purchased it in July 2020 and recently passed it on to the vendor.

THE INTERIOR

  •  Superb original cabin
  •  Dashboard and steering wheel in great condition
  •  Factory instrumentation and switchgear is said to function correctly
  •  Immobiliser

  •  Fantastic door cards
  •  Original black and red cloth upholstery
  •  Rebuilt driver’s seat foam and covers in 2015
  •  Very good carpeting
  •  Easy to fold soft top
  •  Clean boot with a few scuffs to the trim

THE EXTERIOR

  •  Glossy Sorrento Green Metallic paintwork
  •  A few minor stone chips and blemishes
  •  Good lights (smoked rear), glass and mirrors
  •  Impressive wheel arches and sills

Stiff winder winders meant we were unable to lower the windows on the day of the photoshoot. Probably due to lack of recent use, they will need attending to.

THE MECHANICS

  •  Impressive 1,905 cc 4-cylinder petrol engine
  •  Around 130 bhp with 119Ib ft torque @ 4750 rpm

The vendor assures us that this 205 “drives perfectly with no faults at all”.

SUMMARY

If you love originality, you can’t go far wrong with this cool little bundle of fun.
A modern classic and worthy investment, this sporty cabriolet offers all the benefits of the later phase two cars, and with a small degree maintenance and detailing, could be a show-stopper to be proud of.
