The Background

The Nissan Sunny has been around since 1966. It has been massively popular all over the world. It was launched under the Datsun name and available as either a B10 two-door sedan or the VB10, a van/station wagon, and was a completely new product built on a dedicated platform called the B series. The B series has been used for over 40 years, ranging from the B10, B110, B210, B310, B11 through to B15. Each B series number denotes a new model which has always proved popular.
Nissan launched the N series platform, and although it was a different family to the B series, in some parts of the world the Sunny name was still used for the Pulsar and Sylphy models. The N series started with the N13 in 1987 and then moved to the N14 which is this particular model we have here. Production for the N14 ran from 1991 to 1995, quite a short production run, but it did prove to be another popular series around the world with models such as the GTI and the GTI-R.

The History

The seller of this 1993 Nissan Sunny N14 GTI has owned the car since 1st April 2019. He is the second UK owner of the Sunny and the keeper prior had owned it from when it came into the country. Now quite an interesting story from the seller. The car was owned by Nissan Motorsport Belgium, who gave the car to their rally driver at the time to use as a company car. It is believed the car stayed with Nissan in Belgium until it came to the UK in 2003.
Since getting the GTI the seller has treated it to a full respray to tackle an odd few age related scuffs. This has given the Sunny a new lease of life with its fresh coat of paint. It also received a service 6 months ago and a new exhaust. A change in circumstances has meant the Sunny is now up for the taking.

The Paperwork

The V5 is present and shows 1 previous keeper. The last MOT expired on the 6th August 2019. For peace of mind, the seller will be putting a fresh MOT on the Nissan by the end of the auction. Please note, the number plate shown in the photo will be removed from the car, but is available to purchase if required.
On the paperwork side of things sadly there isn't much as it's not been passed on with the car, apart from some odd bits of paperwork from Belgium.

The Interior

Inside this 1993 Nissan Sunny GTI is quite typical of Japanese styling from the mid 90’s, the interior is in a nice clean condition. This is a left hand drive car, so starting with the front seats, the driver’s seat has some slight creasing to the bolster which is as you would expect for the mileage, but it’s not worn through anywhere, and all the adjusters work just as they should. The passenger seat is in good condition with little signs of any wear. The door cards are in nice condition with, again, no real signs of wear to them. The electric window switches in the door cards are working correctly.
Sitting in the driver’s seat you notice the steering wheel has been replaced for a Sparco wheel, this does have some signs of wear to it. Just behind are the instruments and the odometer which is showing 265,089 Kilometers, this equates to 164,718 miles. There are also some stickers fitted to show the speed in MPH making it easier to check your speed in the UK. There are no warning lights displayed and everything works correctly. To the center of the dash is a face off head unit and heater controls, again, all of which are working correctly. The gear knob does have a slight amount of wear, but easily fixed if required.
In the rear of the passenger compartment the seat is in excellent condition, it doesn’t look like it’s had much use over the years. The carpets throughout the car are generally in good condition, with just a small amount of wear to the driver's heel pad. The boot area is nice and clean and still retains the original boot carpet with the spare wheel, jack and wheel brace. Luckily, the parcel shelf has escaped the trend of cutting big holes in there for some additional speakers.

The Exterior

The  outside of the Sunny is, as you can imagine, in brilliant condition, as it's not long received a full respray in its original metallic Grey. Starting at the front the headlights, indicators and fog lights have all escaped any chips. The front towing eye cover is missing, but other than that the bumper aligns well with the grille and bonnet. There is a small scuff to the corner of the driver's side bumper.
As we move around to the sides of the Sunny, the panel gaps around the doors are nice and even, and looking down the sides the Sunny is free from any car park injuries. There are some arch trims on the four corners which are nice and clean along with the side sill covers. The glass on the GTI is scratch free from what we could see. A Sunny GTI is not exactly a common car to start with and this is even less common with having no sunroof.
Onto the rear end, and the hatchback lines up just as it should. The rear light clusters are free from any splits. The Nissan Sunny GTI badges are present and correct. It wouldn't be a GTI without the factory fit boot spoiler, and also still present are the original Nissan mud flaps. The wheels are the factory fit ones that came with the car. There are some odd chips on a couple of them but they’re in generally good condition. The tyres fitted are also in good condition, with plenty of miles left in them.

The Mechanics

The Nissan N14 GTI came fitted with a 1998cc 16 valve Twin-cam naturally aspirated engine, which produces 141 bhp at 6,400 rpm and 131 ft-lb torque at 4,800 rpm. Coupled to a 5-speed gearbox the Sunny goes from 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 131 mph.
The engine bay is well presented and looks nice and original. Six months ago the seller had the oil and air filters replaced along with the engine oil. He also fitted a new Janspeed stainless steel exhaust system which has given the GTI a nice crisp note from the exhaust. The exhaust system also included the four branch manifold and downpipe minus the catalytic converter, releasing a few extra horses from the N14’s engine. The car does come with the original exhaust and catalytic converter, should the new owner wish to refit it.
The seller reports that the Nissan drives lovely, and there are no unwanted noises coming from the transmission or suspension. The engine fires up straight away, pulls well through the gear range and comes to a halt nice and straight.

The Appeal

Very 1990’s! We have on offer a very well presented and now quite rare 1993 Nissan Sunny GTI, which is also a non-sunroof model.
A Japanese pocket rocket, ready to take you right back to 1993! With a recent full respray to freshen it up, and a new Janspeed full stainless steel exhaust from the engine back. With just 3 Sunny GTI 16 Valve and 11 Sunny GTI registered on UK roads, it's certainly a Japanese classic to watch. With such low numbers on the road, prices will soon be on the up.
