Highlights
- Extremely low mileage
- Excellent condition
- Previous owners had had it from new
The Appeal
The name Jeep is synonymous in the world of 4x4 off-road capable recreational vehicles, gaining its rugged reputation from the Willys and Ford General Purpose vehicles of the Second World War.
In 1984 Jeep would introduce the second generation XJ Cherokee, with a rather unconventional monocoque design the XJ Cherokee could be heralded as the first recreational SUV, aimed more towards the suburbs instead of trails.
This Jeep has a remarkable story which you are unlikely to find with any older car. It has only had three owners from new, with the previous two owners being the chap who ordered it from new in 1993 and his son when he sadly passed away.
It has only covered 37,000 miles from the new leaving it in great condition all-round. The current owner had always wanted a car like this, but due to other commitments, they feel bad for letting a car like this sit without use.
So, one lucky person will be able to own this amazing Jeep on its next chapter in life.

With some paperwork referring to a restoration about 6,000 miles ago and the fact that this was one of the very first Cherokees to be delivered into the UK in 1993 it is a remarkably unique and interesting opportunity.
The History and Paperwork
- Ordered new by the previous family in 1993 it stayed within family ownership until 2021 when the current owner picked it up
- The first owner made sure they got the best of the best; the 4.0 Limited was fitted with a lovely and torquey High Output straight-six engine. With optional 4-wheel drive
- Current V5c is present, so a change of ownership will be swift and easy
- It will come with a selection of three keys, great if you are prone to losing keys
- Within the original Jeep holder, there is the original handbook, manual for the pioneer radio, and business cards from the Jeep dealership this XJ was ordered from in 1993
- The most recent MOT certificate is present showing the small increase in mileage from 2017, it also passed with no advisories
- In 2019 there was some work carried out to the sum of £1,422.61, this included x4 tyre balancing, exhaust clamps, brake fluid, x2 rear tailgate struts, and other small pieces.
- A large invoice dated 2015 shows some rather extensive work to the car, including x4 new tyres, repair and respray tailgate and rear bumper, new rear copper brake pipes, new front shocks, full service, and a conversion to the air-conditioning system so it can be recharged with modern gases.
The Interior
- Electrically controlled front seats – work perfectly in all directions
- Power windows all round – all in working order
- Great general condition with only some marks to the headlining
Presented in great condition the interior of the Cherokee is amazingly American, with huge leather seats, electrically operated everything, and choice wood effect panelling to the dashboard it is everything you would imagine from a retro American truck.
All the individual elements within this interior work as intended.

The big, electrically operated, front seats are in good condition with the driver’s seat showing some signs of wear but there are no rips or tears to the material which is great to see.
The electrical parts of both seats work perfectly with the seat moving forwards and backwards, up and down with no issues. The rear seats are in great condition too, these have probably not seen much use over the years.

As this is a big recreational vehicle the boot is rather large leaving loads of space for tents, blow-up paddleboards, or other outdoor activities that you may be interested in. The carpet, grey plastics, and metal runners in the boot are in great condition.
The only area that shows signs of damage is the headlining, with a couple of spots of damage but nothing major.
With the rest of the interior in such great condition, these marks can be forgiven. Whoever gets to sit at the helm of this adventure vehicle will be doing in great comfort, if there’s one thing Americans can do well, it’s comfortable interiors.

The Exterior
- Classic and sort after boxy design
- Additional fog lights in the grille
- Beautifully presented in a dark blue with pinstriping
The XJ Cherokee is well known for its beautifully proportioned boxy design, with large doors and long sloping bonnet it Is presented in very good exterior condition.
As the car is almost 30 years old you can imagine that there are a few age-related marks, notably a ding to one of the rear passenger doors and what could be some sun-bleached paint to one of the wheel arches. However, these small issues should not detract from the overall condition of the exterior.

The blue exterior is adorned with silver pinstriping from front to rear bumper it really sets off the exterior and when twinned with the big ‘Limited’ silver lettering too you know that this 4x4 is something a bit higher-end than you may first think.
Not only is the exterior finished in the lovely deep blue with silver pinstriping, but it also sits on highly desirable cross-spoke polished alloys, over the years they may have lost their sparkle but introduce them to some autosol metal polish and they should come straight back to life.
Overall, the exterior condition is in very good condition, this XJ Jeep will look amazing sitting on your driveway.
The Mechanics
- Fitted with the biggest engine available, a 4.0L straight-six
- Smooth 4-speed automatic gearbox with a selectable ‘power’ mode
- Selectable 4wd with additional hi/low range through the transfer box
From the factory this Cherokee has been fitted with the largest engine that you could option, the big 4.0L straight-six, this engine starts as intended and will purr away on tick over well providing no worrying rattles or vibrations.
When you put it into drive you can tell this engine has more than enough low-down torque, all you need to do is tickle the accelerator and off you go. With the additional ‘power’ button on the dash it will make the gearbox and engine work in perfect harmony providing a bit get up and go should you require it.

With so few miles on the running gear, it is almost inevitable that this Jeep will outlive many of its modern counterparts. If you are in the market for a mechanically looked after, low mileage example of this American modern classic then look no further than this example.
Summary
With such a unique story, great interior condition, and extremely low mileage this could be one of the best XJ Cherokees out there today. With the XJ being one of the first SUVs meant for the suburbs it provides a great ride quality when compared to other similar SUVs from the time.
Having been cared for well over the past 30 years by only three owners it is now time for the next chapter of this XJ’s life with you writing the story. Whether you want to take this on family adventures or solo road trips the combination of size, performance, and condition that this example provides is second to none.
