The Appeal
The 1980s and '90s witnessed huge strides in the development of turbocharging. For the first time, huge horsepower could be extracted from four-cylinder engines, even with a modest 2.0-litre capacity. This made a particularly big impact in the sport of rallying, where cars like the Ford Escort RS Cosworth rose to prominence winning eight Group A events between 1993 and 1996 and two more at WRC in 1997.
FIA rules dictate manufacturers must offer road-going 'homologation specials' for members of the public to buy. And we're delighted to offer this lovely original 'big turbo' example of the 2,500 Escort RS Cosworths Ford built. This one's the Lux model, with a CD player, air conditioning, electric sunroof, electric heated door mirrors, quick-clear heated windscreen and heated washer jets. It also came with a three-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel, carpeted door pockets, a rear seat armrest, opening rear quarter windows, and leather heated seats.
The Cosworth comes with an extensive history file and benefits from a fresh engine rebuild and new exhaust. It comes with two sets of keys, has an alarm system fitted and the advisory-free MOT runs until August 2025. The vendor notes: "it's a rust free example and never been raced or rallied, an incredible machine."
