The Appeal
It is now well known that Volkswagen were initially a little lukewarm about the idea of a fast Golf MKI. Consequently, they originally set a production target of 5,000 cars which was the amount needed for homologation for the Group One Production Touring Car class. By the time MKI Golf production ended in 1983, a total of 456,690 GTis had been produced. This success translated seamlessly into the GTi Cabriolet which continued production right through until 1993. A pair of run out models were produced with the well equipped Rivage being one of them.
This Golf GTi Cabriolet Rivage is complete with all the prestigious run-out features that set the model apart from its lesser brethren. The car presents in the rarer Classic Green Pearl metallic paintwork and seems to be in a good overall condition for its age and mileage. This is a tope end Golf GTI convertible which is ready to use and enjoy immediately by its next lucky owner.

Summary
The run-out models for the MKI Golf GTi Cabriolets were highly specified in order to encourage sales of an outgoing, if perennially popular, model. The specification of the Rivage included some worthwhile and desirable items including the full leather interior, heated seats, painted body kit and electric hood. With a limited number originally coming to the UK, the Rivage is now a very scarce sight on our roads but remains a fun, practical and highly useable modern classic.
This example is notable for its originality. Its overall condition is good indeed, but not so good as to discourage regular use and enjoyment. The mileage represents under 4,000 a year on average and all key Rivage parts and refinements are present and correct. This car represents a fun and useable classic at an attainable price point and featuring that all important GTi badge. As such it represents a desirable and exciting ownership prospect.
